Possibly one of the most dangerous questions in history, Second Life fashionistas know that system skirts can prompt the question “does this make my ass look fat?” For whatever technical computer-y reason, system skirts seem to float above the body mesh, creating what Phaedra of Real Housewives of Atlanta calls donkey booty. You can prevent donkey booty with a skirt shape. There’s some resistance to this idea, I think folks feel it’s too much work, but really, it’s a short and easy one-time effort.
Here you can see that with my regular shape, there is a bit of a donkey booty. The best made system skirt in the world will give you a bit of a donkey booty unless you already have a very small bottom. Of course, the larger your bottom, the more donkey in the donkey butt there will be. So, you can see there’s reason for making a skirt shape and saving it in your inventory so you have it on hand for all future system skirts.
Frequently, folks make a skirt shape by simply opening up their shape and changing the butt to 0. However, there’s more to your donkey booty than just the butt. Instead, I take my hip width down just a tiny bit (10 smaller) and reduce my butt by a little over half (25 smaller) and reduce my saddle bags by 10. You should also drop your love handles about 5 or 10. The amount you reduce depends on what your original shape is. If you like a big booty look, your system skirt shape should still have a big booty, but not a big old donkey booty. Play with it and you will find the perfect combination. The key is to save the shape and store it in a folder with your regular shape. I have a Cajsa folder with all my shape modifications. It also has my reuglar eyes, lashes, nails and eyebrows. It takes a second to change shapes, so there’s no excuses for donkey booty. Here’s a video tutorial from Miko Omegamu.
My jewelry is from Kunglers. Their jewelry is bold enough for the strong print in the dress. The hair is from Love Soul. I love the lightly windblown look of it.
The skin is Tuli’s gorgeous Zoe. I added the Rose lip tattoo.

(Laughing) Donkey booty?! I’ve never heard that before. Brilliant! And an excellent article.
That dress is gorgeous on you. And thank you for the tutorial and suggestions on how to get rid of “donkey booty” (also chuckling over that term). I’m one of those who usually shies away from system skirts, not because I dont have a skirt-shape – I do. I’ve just never been able to get it to look right. Now that I have a better idea about what to tweak, I’m looking forward to playing around with my measurements. 🙂
