Reading Harper’s yesterday, I came across the a short article listing the taxonomy of Weimar Republic prostitutes – who signalled their specialty by the color of their boots and the laces on their boots. This made me think of those wonderful texture-change hi-tops from UBU and of course I had to laugh because they are called Pornstar. My reason for mentioning that is that when I put on this RFL Clothing Fair dress from League, I decided to add the League stockings as well and they make me think of Berlin and the wonderfully subversive Berlin cabarets. One of my favorite albums is Ute Lemper’s Berlin Cabaret songs which is as subversive as they come. So,, listening to Ute as I shot this outfit – I followed the route of the Berlin cabaret singer.
The foundation of the outfit is Winged Hope from League – a blue and purple silk brocade dress with a frothy miniskirt over black lace and a bodice with white wings on the breasts suggesting hope. Of all the outfits I have seen at RFL Clothing Fair, this one really seems to express the ultimate purpose of the fair – supporting the search for a cure for breast cancer. I added the Ella stocking from League to shift the focus toward the cabaret and the Tesla High Oxfords also help with that shift in time and place. Using the wonderful Cabaret poses from Reel Expression made it quite easy to get into the mood. The Ute Lemper music was just icing on the top.
The AnnMarie Black Pearl necklace and earrings set I picked up at the Armoire Trunk Show. You definitely need to go there to see the stunning tableaus and join in the hunt for premium quality jewelry. This is a color change parure so the roses and the pearls can change appearance. The hair is an amazing new release from Mirai Style called FBIY – the instant I saw it, I knew it was for me!
The makeup is from Annyka Bekker’s Infinity skin line – formerly Blowpop. This is the Carmen makeup and it has the range and flexibility to look good in a modern and in a 1920’s styling.

Hey! I am so happy you like AnnMarie! You definately wear it well!!! thank you for wearing it! <3
The whole thing has me looking for Joel Grey in the background, with his slicked-down hair and slightly decadent makeup as the Master of Ceremonies.
If you’re into musical aspects of German Cabaret scene you may want to check out Ute Lemper’s YouTube Channel and/or her new album Between Yesterday and Tomorrow coming out May 5th
I am a big fan of Ute Lemper. I think I may have a you tube link to her in one of my posts. Yes, her Berlin Cabaret Songs albums are great.
Yes, I saw her near Union Square a few weeks back and she was fabulous. It’s best to see her in person if you can, but the album is great, too.
Hey! Not sure where you live, but Ute has one of her only U.S. events in NYC this June 9th at Le Poisson Rouge (love that name):
