23/04/2018 – The grass seems greener on the other sim

So, last Monday, I spent the best part of my day setting up for Fantasy Faire. I have OCD so you can imagine how having everything in the exact right spot is vital to me. Turns out, Alia Baroque’s gorgeous sim, Aetherea, suffers from an illness that the Linden are unable to identify (they find it “interesting”) and the sim isn’t working properly. On Saturday we were asked to please set up out most important vendors on a mini Aetherea, and this morning, I woke up to a notecard telling me to copy my whole set up to a mirror sim. I had a complete meltdown. Due to ONE item that appeared to be no copy (and that I only identified when I was almost done), I had to move my items pretty much one by one over to the new sim. I have to say, if it weren’t for a fellow fairelander and Alia’s impeccable work, I would have lost it. Anyway, now that I’m done, I can finally relax with a blog post.

We Can’t Hold Our Liquor

My friend Kitty and I decided to go about yesterday, hither and yon, and after coffee at her place we decided on drinkees at mine. Luckily my new kitchen from Trompe Loeil dispenses them liberally so it didn’t take too long until we were two very tipsy girls. Continue reading

I Never Like To Admit That I Was Wrong

Are you good at admitting you’re wrong? It’s a skill. When I’m working, toiling at my desk and blogging, shooting, styling, I have no problem admitting something’s wrong. “Look at that intersection” or “Oh god why did I think that went together” or whatever it is I’ve done wrong, I am ok with admitting it. I’m good with accepting it and moving on.

Personally I’m terrible at it.  I hate realizing I’m wrong about someone. I hate being wrong about who they are, or their intentions.  Continue reading

8 Years Later

This blog has existed now for 8 years. That’s a long time in SL blogger world, probably even longer in SL Fashion Blogger world. I forget sometimes why we’re considered part of the old guard, until I look through the feeds and don’t know who the hell anyone is.

I’m glad we’re still here, and I’m glad you are too. I don’t know what we’ll be doing in the next year, but I suspect shoes, hair, earrings and clothes will be part of it. And skins, don’t forget skins.

Thanks for reading us all these years.

That bear is strategically placed because I’m not wearing panties and HEY- YO yeah, vagina.

Another Year Over

What are you wearing for New Year’s Eve? WHAT? You better have a plan because here we are and some parts of the world are already doing it! What is YOUR PLAN?

I’ve chosen a new release from Baiastice which is part of the Holiday Collection recently released for your holiday season events. It’s a gorgeous, traditional formal gown that’s elegant and lovely – like you. Continue reading

Today You Can Do Some Do-Gooding With Your Lindens…

My mother would’ve said that if Cajsa jumped off a cliff, that I would follow her. That’s entirely possible, as when Cajsa takes the time to pour her passion into something I know it’s worthy, and it’s touched her. When something touches someone you love and care about, that’s worth a moment of your pause.  Continue reading

Gacha Got Me

Good morning girls, glad you popped by. I have so many new goodies this morning that I’m about to pop! I stopped over to the Gacha Garden event and oh dear I was one of those people! I was pulling and pulling and pulling – because I wanted the ding dang bed from this set from Sallie.  Continue reading

Wishes and Wants

Alaska Metro is participating in a “new to me” event (hey it could be new, or old, I don’t even know) called SAD NOVEMBER. Why so SAD November? I’m sort of ok with November really. Thus far it’s treated me better than September and October so I don’t have this Sad November thing in focus.

The event however is cute. I looked through their event and am going to have to do some more shopping. You can check out the gallery HERE.

I’m trying a new to me skin today, from Deetalez.  What do you think?

All that is solid melts into air

Snapshot

Art has many purposes; one is to make us think. If the greatness of art is measured by how much we think about it, Whiskey Monday is a great artist. It is difficult for a virtual artist like Whiskey Monday to get first life recognition for Second Life® art, but it is not impossible. I certainly think her work merits exposure in the broader world beyond our pixel borders.

Meanwhile, it is good to know that the powers that be in our world recognize her importance and have granted her LEA10 – one of the Linden Endowment for the Arts sims, to create art for the coming month. She’s working away and generously allows people to go there and use her builds in their photos.

Snapshot

Where I first saw this build, I thought  of “Things Fall Apart”, the title of the book by China Achebe that a lot of us read in high school. By the way, if you have not read it, you should. I thought of coming undone, falling apart, coming apart at the seams; metaphors for the fragility of life. I do get the sense that Monday is tackling the big questions with her work.

Then I thought of creative destruction and Karl Marx’s quote, “All that is solid melts into air.” Marx believed the cycle of innovation, recession, then innovation, the boom and bust, would lead to the eventual collapse of capitalism. Free market fundamentalists love creative destruction believing it always leads to innovation that will always lead to more productivity and more wealth and so on. The computer destroyed the typewriter industry, factories closed and people were laid off. That is creative destruction. All that was solid about the typewriter industry has certainly melted into air. Even on a massive corporate scale, there is fragility.

Snapshot

I wonder about creative destruction at the personal level. Is there something freeing about coming undone? Can losing it spark personal innovation, re-creation and growth? Probably, for some people. But not for all. Even the strongest person has points of fragility.
