Alexander McQueen transformed fashion with his iconoclastic designs that overthrew fashion convention. He altered the gestalt of the fashion world before his tragic surrender to despair and suicide. But his influence continues, not only in Sarah Burton’s designs for his design house, but in the more theatrical fashion shows, the extreme silhouettes with fantasy hair and makeup and more diverse and interesting models that continue to bring excitement and vision to the runways. The rebirth of tailoring and the renaissance of rich textured brocades, prints and other fabrics all are part of his influence continuing. And here in Second Life we can see his influence with some of the work of designer Rollyn of Vangaurd. Vanguard is new to me. I saw the store at The Ashraya Project and fell in love with the fabrics and silhouettes. It has certainly been around since last December, but I only came across it this month. This rich, detailed dress with the amazing epaulettes is one of my favorites from her collection.

This was the second dress that came without glitch pants. Some lingerie and careful prim-adjusting made this wearable and I even wore it to a club dancing without mishap – so yes, we can survive without glitch pants. I managed to cover my butt by raising the waist higher. I would like to see glitch wear or an alpha included, though, simply because while I am good at fitting prims and making the adjustments necessary and not everyone is. I have friends who would put it on and say “Hell, no.” and not spend the time to make it work.

I added these unconventional ankle boots from Baiastice to help bring out the red of the dress and complement the styling with the epaulettes.

My jewelry is from Paper Couture, the big Organic Hoops earrings. They come larger than these, but I edited them smaller so they did not intersect the necklace. The necklace is called Sticks and Stones. The gold was full bright, but it’s mod so I turned that off. I love they way it takes that deep red and gold from the dress and uses them in such a different way. The hair is Leesa from Truth. While not so extreme as a McQueen runway hairdo, I like the strong silhouette it brings – something a dress this stylized demands.

I wore the subtly shadowed JeSyLiLO Kaljya skin that is featured at Skin Showcase. It has a strong and distinctive look, but with a subtle shadow and nude gloss so that the makeup does not conflict, but complements the dress which is the star of this look.
