Twilight Cultist Purple

I am petty. Any NPC that gave me trouble as I leveled up through WoW, the ones that killed me again and again, I have to go back and kick their asses now whenever I see them. Whether it be the cutpurses of Elwynn forest, or the various murlocks that sent me to the graveyard again and again, if I pass by them, BAM I kill them.

Most of the time I don’t even loot them. Continue reading

Friend or “Friend”

141106_008

Bizza’s Asymmetrical Jacket is fun, casual and goes perfectly with the Josie pants. The Josie pants come with a HUD offering three options for each pair of pants. The details on these pants are out of this world.

Most of our friends are not our friends; they are acquaintances, contacts, colleagues and associates. However, in social media, we lump the people on our mobilization phone trees together with those for whom we would give up a kidney. The act of reading each others timelines foster that sense of shared intimacy that is the hallmark of real friendship. The boundaries blur and sometimes we invest more emotionally in those who are merely ships passing by, mistaking acquaintanceship for friendship. More than one person has been devastated recently by opinions of “friends” they have mistaken for friends.

However true friendship requires more than knowing the name of my cat or my political persuasion. Friendship is an investment in trust and intimacy. We share our best selves with our “friends” and share our flaws with our friends. You know someone is your friend when you know you can safely confess some petty, spiteful thoughts and feeling, secure that your friendship will not falter. That is why the opinions of “friends” should be taken lightly. They know of us. They know about us. They do not know us.

Weekends Are For Sleeping In

Avatars need to sleep in too. It’s busy work shopping and getting dressed, and going shopping again. Taking pictures too, and blogging, these things all make a weekend a well deserved break for a pixel girl. I changed the texture on my bed from Ispachi. I love this bed. Continue reading

Give a Man a Fish

Mahrathon-2014-Sq_SL

There is a popular quote that says, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Perhaps there should be an addendum. Give a man at fishing net and he can feed his family. Heifer International is all about not only teaching people to provide for themselves, but also giving them the means to get started. Depending on where they live, people in poverty are given anything from honeybees to water buffalo and launched into the business of not just feeding themselves, but making a living. In addition, they pledge to pass it on to another family, raising the standard of living for the entire community in time.

Every December, Maht Wuyts does his annual Mahrathon to raise money for Heifer. He DJs for 26.2 hours from The Velvet in Second Life and from a coffee shop in Chicago – a RL/SL event that raised $2500 last year.

Because it is happening in two worlds simultaneously, it is helpful to have a few hosts to help greet people and encourage contributions, so if anyone would like to volunteer to cover an hour or two as a host – encouraging friends to come join in the fun and greet people, please IM me in world.

And everyone, mark your calendars – so you don’t miss the fabulous Marathon. The music is great.

My SLINK Obsession: CHARLI from Adam N Eve

My SLINK OBSESSION has opened at SLINK WEST for another round and Adam n Eve has released a lovely skin called CHARLI with appliers for VISAGE. Sachi makes such lovely, very unique faces that I thought I would show you how it looks with and without the head.

Left is regular old Gidge wearing the base skin.  It’s a really pretty look. Right is me wearing the BECKY Visage head, with the appliers, I’ve added some pretty makeup colors and moles !  Continue reading

Designer Download — Lavea Alter

DesignerDownload

Lavea Alter has a longer history in Second Life® than many may first realize. She opened a store years ago called A-Bomb which featured a lot of retro clothing before taking a sabbatical from SL. When she returned, she opened a new store, starting from scratch with Fission where her retro rockabilly style continues to shine.

It’s Only Fashion: What was your first day in Second Life like? What made you stick it out through the learning curve?

Lava Alter:  A friend who played begged me for weeks until I finally agreed to play.  My learning curve was pretty easy since I had someone to show me the ropes.  The first thing she did was take me to buy some hair, and I was thrilled to get a purple bob!

IOF: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest?

LA: I don’t feel like I’ve done anything really crazy, but my brand of silly normally involves me putting on questionable items found in the dark corners of marketplace for the amusement of others.  As for the most exciting, it was probably opening up that first mainstore of A-Bomb several years ago.  I zoomed my view out and stared at it for at least an hour with a huge smile on my face. Plaid In Bloom

141102_003It’s fall and that means that plaid is in bloom. While nothing prevents us from wearing plaid in the spring and summer and nothing prevents us from having plaid cottons, taffetas, silks and organzas, we still most often see plaid in rich, cozy wools perfect for cool, crisp autumn days. This plaid skirt and cowl sweater are from Shai Delacroix. I remember in 2008, my friends and I would make weekly pilgramages to Casa del Shai to see if and what she may have released. She took a bit of a sabbatical for a bit, but since her return she has been releasing all sorts of new and wonderful mesh with a focus on great separates for everyday wear.

And THIS Is Why 6 AM Shopping Is A Bad Idea

So this happened. I went to the CHAPTER FOUR because I saw a pic of a cute sweatshirt that FISHY STRAWBERRY had out, and I HAD TO HAVE IT. I’m all SL broke right now bcse QAVIMATOR went to hell but that’s a different story. So ANYWAY – had to have it, I had a cup of coffee barely touched, TP’d right in and went right to the shirts I wanted. YAY I saw the one I wanted, made my purchase and TP’d home, full of joy with my whimsical purchase.

Except I got dressed and it didn’t say what I wanted. I wanted the one that said MORE ISSUES THAN VOGUE. MINE DIDN’T SAY THAT !! I tried both colors. I gave up and shot them as is. And I sent FAE a note, saying OMG MY SHIRT IS WRONG /weeps.

Then I went to plurk and lamented my fate. Because obviously this is a tragedy. Continue reading

I Have a Weakness

I love hot drinks. All sorts of hot drinks. Coffees, teas, chai, hot chocolate. Bring me hot drinks. I have known smokers in real life who would leave cigarettes scattered around their house in ash trays, burning, and would smoking them as they passed by. I am like that in my Second Life with hot drinks. I leave them around.

I think she might be thirsty.  Continue reading

What If I Just Stood Here ?

Someone wrote on SLSECRETS last week that they miss bloggers writing about what they were wearing. I think a lot of bloggers still do this. There are some who don’t. It depends on where their fancy takes them, and what their blog means to them. Cajsa and I still write, but we love words as much as we love fashion. But most importantly, we write for an audience that likes, more or less, what we do.

Knowing who you want to write for, and what you want to write about is an important part of being a blogger. Dressing my doll, and letting her have a bit of a virtual life is only part of it for me. I also like to share her with you. Some days that’s as quick as LOOK AT THIS THING. Maybe that’s because in real life, I’d be so harried that day, this is how I’d end up communicating with you, were we friends. Continue reading
