Mesh heads will not make us all look alike.

One of the fears people have about adopting mesh heads is that we will become clones of each other – all looking the same, but that is not something we really need to fear. There are many mesh heads from which to choose. There are many skins that can be applied to each head. Different hair colors and styles, different eyes, different skins with varied makeup. All theses styling choices give us variation. If you doubt that, look at this showcase. Sure, I would love a mesh version of my own face, but with the many mesh heads out there, it is possible to find something close. The Ever head from Lelutka is the one that feels closest for me.

I want to explore the Lelutka mesh head’s versatility. In one way, it is less versatile than other mesh heads. It does not come with a variety of emotive expressions. With the Lelutka mesh head you have the option of opening or closing the eyes and opening or closing the mouth. There are no looks of shock, horror, surprise, laughter, anger, pleasure or disdain. As anyone who has followed my blog for a long time, you know that it not a big priority for me. For those who love to emote, that may be an issue.

I am more interested in makeup versatility. The standard HUD comes with eyeshadow and lipstick applicators.  For all these pictures, I used just one eye and lip option, so all this variety comes from just that one option. This is because you can dial up the color strength and gloss to the max. In this picture, the shadow and lipstick are their darkest.

Here you can see that I have dialed it down – look at the red arrows, those are the controls for how intense the colors are.

I can also dial up the level of shimmer on the eyes and gloss on the lips. Here I left the color intensity low and dialed up the shimmer and gloss.

Here I took the lip color to a love medium intensity. I also brought down the color menus that you can use to thing your eyebrows and hairbase to match your hair. Above it, you can see the las options – light or heavy. This puts a lot of control in our hands to get the look we like.

I love this Ever head because it is closer to my own look than others. It would be fun to add emotional expressions, but that is not my highest priority. I can customize the head by adjusting the head’s width and length, something covered in Harper Beresford’s review.  The things I would really like to see in mesh heads are not possible, I would love to adjust eyes, nose and mouth the way we can on the default avatar, but they cannot rig to the face like that. The only way to get that kind of customization is to pay someone a lot to make you a custom head (I have not found anyone offering that service.) or learn to make your own, but then you will have to make your own skin, too.

You mention tinting the eyebrows, but when I tint the hair base the eyebrows do not change color.

  2. Selena

The face looks the same as tons of other peoples in SL. You look exactly like them
