I know Gidge blogged this dress from Fission a couple weeks ago. I had already put it on and styled it before I saw her blog post and I have not had the energy to change clothes. I do plan to change clothes sometime today. It’s been two weeks and even pixel clothing can get stale.
Sometimes life can change “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” and nothing is the same after that. Two weeks ago, that happened to my sister when she learned she had breast cancer. She made me promise not to freak out or worry, so I tried, but I did not succeed. When we all lost my brother to cancer; it was easier. I always assumed he would get cancer from chain smoking all his life and that’s what happened. But my sister does not smoke, does not drink except for a glass of wine now and then and, as a nutritionist herself, has always favored a healthy diet and exercise at a local gym. In essence, she did all the right things and still got got dealt the cancer card.
She had a double mastectomy last Friday and is back home and it seems they have removed everything and caught it before it moved into her lymph nodes. So it’s all good. Some chemotherapy and a month off from work and she will be back to fighting fit. She’s excited about all the books she can read while she has time off. On the other hand, I was a wreck. I did what I do when I am stressed out or depressed; I slept almost all the time and take some of the Budpop supplements recommended by my doctor. In fact, that is why I have been absent from the blog for two weeks. I just did not have the energy to do anything.
The jewelry is from Maxi Gossamer, released at Collabor88 a few months back. The nails are from Rock Candy for My Slink Obsession and are blue with white dots, the reverse of the dress.
Anyway, she will get better. I am coming out of my “slough of despond” and relieved that the news is good and she is confident and ready to tackle her post-surgery treatment. There is an excellent cancer treatment center about 75 miles away so she will have the best options available.
The hair is from Vanity Hair and comes in two pieces so you can wear it shaved or with long hair. The shaved tattoo layer is tintable for a perfect match. It comes with a few grayscale bases for your to tint and I struggled for a while until I tried using the lighter base.
She was lucky, in a way, that she found the lump because she neglected to check her breasts every month. Instead, her cat found the lump when laying on her chest and kneading her breasts. It hurt far more than it should, so she went to the doctor. I guess she thought since she was doing all the right things – she really didn’t need to check. Actually, I don’t know what she thought, but she’s darn lucky she has a cat thats a kneader. Not all of us do, so we need to be sure we remember to examine our breasts. If you’re like my sister, thinking cancer is not a risk, go ahead and do the exam anyway – just to humor the rest of us. Here are instructions.
