Art and Fashion

On Project Runway this week, Zac Posen explained the need for fashion to succeed commercially, adding that Fashion is not a Fine Art because it must be commercial. Then, I saw this dress from Shiki working in collaboration with the artist Vinn Wong and I have to ask, how is this not Fine Art?

This fabric is as alive with passion and dynamic energy as any Jackson Pollack. Does it become lesser because I can wear it? Does painting on silk rather than canvas devalue that artistry?

I added the Axel jacket from Pink Outfitters with the shift dress in case it got chilly.

My jewelry and hairstyle both came from Collabor88 this month. The hair is from D!va and has optional daisies with a touch script. It’s so adorable, I know I will wear it again with the flower. The jewelry is from Yummy. There’s a black and white set and a primary colors set.

The shoes are the newest from MiaMai and are simply stunning! The come in glitter and flax textures. I love the weave of the flax. Flax makes terribly itchy clothing, but work great on shoes.

The skin is the brand new Shelby from Adam n Eve.

    Hi Cajsa Lilliehook,

Thank you so much for making these beautiful pictures of Shinichi and my work. I love your style of writing. What you said about the fine line between fine art and fashion was really thought provoking. It gave me a lot to think about. Thank you very much for your compliments on the dress as well. I adore your styling. It really gives the whole outfit a unique flare.

I look forward to meeting you one day. We’d love to see more of SHIKI on your blog and hear what you have to say. It’s wonderful to see that there are also other artists out there that understands how much thought and effort are involved in 3D clothes making.

    Vinn Wong
