The More You Look

I love the scattering of pailletes on this dress. Usually paillets are scattered on super sexy ball gowns, eding the organza overskirts that float above silk or satin draping. That makes this very special because it’s not a ball gown and it has a severe, conservative silhouette. Now, that first impression of conservatism is belied by the the ultra-modern shoulder pads and the exaggerated bow in the back – but that just makes the dress even more interesting. Another way that the initial conservatism is overwritten by design is in the fitted structured princess seam bodice that conforms so closely to the body. This is one of those lady-like dresses that will keep drawing closer, more admiring looks the longer it is studied.

And it will be studied because it is so very flattering. From the figure-hugging shaping to the soft and touchable fabric, everything about this dress is designed to draw you in while appearing to be demure.

If you had any doubts that designer Monica Outlander is playing with your head here, just take a look at the bow in the back. It’s not up high or even on the waist, but rests lower to exaggerate and draw attention to your bottom – oh yes, she is totally making the superficially demure extremely and sneakily seductive. I chose the lovely shoes from Baiastice to help her in that effort.

The lovely grape cluster necklace and earrings from PISA provide a lovely counterbalance to the pailletes. The hairstyle from Bliensen & MaiTai operates on two levels in the same way as the dress. The original style is a rather severe updo softened and romanticized by a few loose tendrils. The name is quite clever – Not a Princess – and certainly while it may superficially remind one of the unflattering Princess Leia hairdo, it’s much more romantic and restrained.

The skin is the super-hot July from PXL Creations – my go-to skin for when I want to know I look elegant.
