Burlesquerie

It’s purely coincidence that the outfit I am proposing for Halloween fun today is completely free. This outfit is not an editorial comment on the Freebie debate. In fact, I shot the photos on the 22nd, a day before the Great Freebie Debate in which I agreed with everyone. I like freebies, I sometimes blog them. I also think that there’s a freebie glut right now.  Perhaps there will be a natural market correction. I also agree some shoppers are just dang rude, but do not believe the freebies make them rude.  Some people find anonymity liberating and become more creative, more open and more alive. Some find anonymity liberating and turn into creatures with the manners of a weasel, the morals of a polecat and the kindness of a badger. It’s not the freebies that make them that way; it’s their true nature. But now, back to fashion.

Many of you are familiar with Four Yip’s many ingenious creations – all free. She makes wonderful installations with which you can interact, but even more, she gives them freely allowing you to become a performance artist.  This is from her peepshow installation and includes a dance chair with animations. In this case, the outfit is not only great performance art, it’s incredibly sexy.

So, if the grim gothic and violent vamp is not your style, how about some burlesque sexiness with this lovely peepcock outfit? With it I am wearing the also free Yak & Yeti turquoise necklace and earrings.

oh, there were many many posts about the value of freebies. I haven’t all the URL’s for them, but let me see what I can find.

Thanks for the links. And yes, Ana, it did make me think about my practices in the past.

I think I tend to the more responsible freebie person. I only pick them up if I like them, and I do go back to the vendors of the items I did like.

Example, the Jewelery Expo. I picked up a number of freebies, but I bought items from at LEAST five vendors…sigh…. and I’ve since gone back to the main stores of those vendors whose work I really liked to see what else they might have…and bought more.

Same thing for the Glamor Expo…and rats, I missed most of the Shoe Expo. Wait, maybe it’s good I missed that one.

Yes, I agree, Ana and think the discussion is valuable if only to remind us of the need for good manners. I think that the freebie issue would be a nonstarter if it were not for the rudeness of some freebie hunters. I think all of us have witnessed some rudeness and I know when I saw it, I failed to speak up and say something “in the moment.”
