When long-time model Fuzz Lennie told me she had begun designing for Zanze and had just produced her first dress, I had to see it. She has a great sense of style and exquisite focus on detail and I was eager to see what she was going to make. All I can say, is wow! if this is her first, I cannot wait for her second. This dress spoke to me on another level though, reminding me of one of my favorite gifts I gave for Christmas.
It was several years ago, back when I had my very first job in political organizing – working for the mission more than the money. My “discretionary income” was close to nil and in choosing between getting the NY Times of a telephone, I opted for the Times and walked two blocks to a convenience store for phone calls. So Christmas would have to be frugal and I would have to make gifts. Well, I grew up on frugal Christmases with homemade gifts, so that was no problem. Continue reading →
Zzoiee Zee had such fun designs at her store Zanze that I had a hard time choosing one to feature. I eventually chose this one which come with a texture changing hud allowing me to change the fabric to different color versions of this print. I opted for black and white because I love watching projectors interplay with fabric in my pictures. You can see some really cool details such as the bands of fabric. Not just the white band at the hem but the small band of reverse print – white on black instead of black on white – right above the white band. The zipper inset and the small shrug are all great details that make this a far more interesting dress that deserves a second and third look to appreciate its totality. Continue reading →
One of the reasons I enjoy Fashion Week in real life and Second Life® is the abundance of high fashion designs that are haute, haute, haute. Take the Liana gown from Zanze. There’s nothing practical or sensible about and that is why I love it. Continue reading →
I went to the Zanze show at AVENUE Fall/Winter Fashion Week and fell in love. I had heard of the designer Zzoiezee, but as the owner of Zenshi, the zen-centric residential and commercial complex and the big club Zenzibar. I had no idea she was a designer as well. That’s the big benefit of Fashion Week, discovering new designers that really speak to your own aesthetic and she does. I will show you more in the coming days, but first I had to share this lush gown with ruffled tiers of autumn leaves. It’s just perfect.
Autumn leaves under frozen souls,
Hungry hands turning soft and old,
My hero cried as we stood out there in the cold,
Like these autumn leaves I don’t have nothing to hold.
Zzoiezee resists the impulse to embellish and knows that extravagance in one place must be balanced by discipline elsewhere, so the bodice is pure simplicity, making way for the exuberant tiers of rich, vibrant autumn color. This can be worn with or without shoes as she provides two alpha options. I chose to wear the lovely python shoes from Kunglers in a deep red.
