You Said Wood

Keithia is the new tower and bed from Trompe Loeil and I thought perhaps there was a tale about a damsel and a tower but I couldn’t find one online. I did find that the name means wood.

At that I began to giggle, because well it’s a big tall tower, and wood. I’m a 12 year old boy sometimes, I swear. Continue reading

Come Into My Parlor

When on the breath of autumn's breeze

I kinda sorta fell in love with the top and skirt from United Colors at Collabor88 this month. This month’s theme is Autumn’s Breath, possibly inspired by Mary Howitt’s Cornfields. Howitt’s big contribution was The Spider and the Fly so it seems a good time to shoot some pictures in my parlor and show off my shoes from Ingenue. <grin>

“WHEN on the breath of autumn breeze,
From pastures dry and brown,
Goes floating like an idle thought
The fair white thistle-down,
Oh then what joy to walk at will 5
Upon the golden harvest hill!

When on the breath of autumn's breeze

It’s Getting Hot

I decided the perfect way to start my week this Monday was to take a dip in my pool. Most people might wait until Memorial Day in the states to christen the pool but I figure my pool is exempt from such provincial traditions.

I’m sporting a new bathing suit, and I can never have enough of them. This one is actually FREE if you join the Boom Clothing company VIP group – WHICH INCREDIBLY is also free to join. Aranel Ah is back in SL full force and she’s released this as a little teaser to get you come check out her goods! I suggest you do so! Continue reading

House Crisis Arises

I popped over to visit with Sasy and Mavi this morning and to behold the amazing new Lelutka build and I told them I was having a crisis. A HOUSE CRISIS. Why is it that just about every time I get my house sorted someone makes a new one and then I want that one?

I DON’T WANT TO SET UP MY HOUSE AGAIN.

Yet, I want this new house to be my house. It’s a trial I tell you, having too many options. Continue reading

Free, unrestrained and unhindered.

“the things in our control are by nature free, unhindered, and unobstructed"

Epictetus wrote in the Enchiridion, “The things in our control are by nature free, unrestrained, unhindered.” We control our own actions, words, opinions, what we like, what we don’t like, and what we want. If we stick to what we control, he suggests, we are free of restraint. It is when we try to influence the things outside our control that we are trapped. It’s good advice. The difficulty is figuring out what we can control.

That’s been on my mind a lot. There’s a lot I don’t like happening, but what can I control? I can choose despair or resistance, that’s up to me. I need to focus on what I can do, not what I wish would happen. So even though I feel like kicking more than an exercise bag, I will instead focus my mind and my heart on resisting despair.

Hello Cold Weather

Hello Cold Days

December is here and that means Christmas! and The Arcade! and it is up for debate which is more exciting. It’s so easy to go the red and green route for the holidays, but I resisted, buoyed by the gorgeous Camellia lights from {anc} over in the corner. I went for pinks and turquoises, think Miami meets Idaho. I liberally used the edit menu to tint my furnishings just a bit and even retexture a few things such as the runner on the side table. I know it’s a blend of modern and traditional that should clash, but it doesn’t. I think of Simon de Pury when I decorate, “Be bold, be brave, be amazing.” Why not mix modern settees with traditional cupboards and folk art and deco end tables? If you can make harmony of contradiction, then it’s not just bold, it is amazing.

Life Is Uncertain, Eat Dessert First

Life is uncertain, eat dessert first.

The veggie tray, apple pie, salt and pepper shakers and waffle iron can all be found at The Arcade.

The uncertainties of life are manifest every day. Some uncertainties are harder than others. My sister has Stage IV lung cancer. But her future is still uncertain, it’s quite possible the chemo will kill her long before the cancer can. She’s been in the hospital for two weeks now as a mold has developed in her lungs, thanks to chemo bringing her white blood cell count down to zero. On Thursday, I learned she has developed VRE, a anti-biotic resistant bacteria similar but much more rare than MRSA, the OMG of countless House episodes. Of course, because when you are going to ER three times a day for 90 minute infusions of antibiotics, you develop anti-biotic resistant bacteria. I think it is time for her to eat a lot of dessert. Ice cream, apple pie, chocolate cake, brownies and coffee nips. Go for it!
