My favorite farmer’s market in Portland is on the South Park Blocks. I love walking on the grass under the cool, shady trees. There’s something so much fresher and vibrant about that setting than the many other markets set up in concrete parking lots under the hot sun. There was one right next to my old apartment, less than a block away, and I still preferred the wonderful shady, tree-sheltered market downtown. Folks in Second Life® can put their markets anywhere they like, so I chose a grassy spot with trees.
My dress is from Bomshire – a new to me store. It is a dress with a simple black top and a vibrant print skirt. I simply love it. Continue reading →
Regular readers of It’s Only Fashion will have missed us for the last two days. We had a corrupted database. From what I understand, it took a package from a North Korean agent in a black wool coat and dark glasses. Of course, anyone else would have known the agent was suspicious because it’s something like 90° and he’s wearing a black wool coat. Our database, however, was naive and unsuspecting. I hope it has learned its lesson.
Perhaps though, like Thomas Bailey Aldrich, it was distracted by two petals falling from a rose:
MY mind lets go a thousand things,
Like dates of wars and deaths of kings,
And yet recalls the very hour—
’T was noon by yonder village tower,
And on the last blue noon in May— 5
The wind came briskly up this way,
Crisping the brook beside the road;
Then, pausing here, set down its load
Of pine-scents, and shook listlessly
Two petals from that wild-rose tree.
While the runway shows are over, Penumbra Spring Summer Fashion Week continues with the showcase of stores that were featured last week. One of them was Ghee which is known for whimsical and original designs. This summer silk lace dress is a gorgeous example, made with two pieces. a slip and a lace shift that lays over it. As you can see they fit perfectly together. Continue reading →
This Prey jacket for Penumbra Spring Summer Fashion Week goes over a coordinating corset. It seems like a capelet with short sleeves. It has long points that drop down and from which a silver spikes are suspended. Here you can see the point drops to the mid back.
I have spent a good portion of my life on buses; school buses, tour buses, Greyhound and Trailways buses and public transit buses. Of course, that means I have also spent a good portion of my life waiting for buses.
Among the many places I have waited, the most interesting, entertaining, freaky, funny, scary and downright wild place is Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis on Saturday night. I would get off work at the planetarium just as the demi-monde was coming to life, late enough that missing one bus meant a long wait for the next one. A woman alone was often presumed to be on the stroll, so I had the “pleasure” of turning down many propositions. I am told that the infamous Block E where I would wait has been leveled and a new entertainment mall has replaced it. I suppose that would make for a more comfortable wait for the bus, but there was something vibrant, vital and exciting about Hennepin that I hope is never lost.
Of course, if this were Hennepin there would be at least three level of signs on every building and hundreds of people on the sidewalk.
There are a few more shopping days left of the Pretty In Punk round of Collabor88 and you won’t want to miss it. Look at this gorgeous dress from ISON for this round. It comes in several solid colors and well as two plaids and these gorgeous stripes. I love ISON’s contemporary style, minimalist and fashion forward with just a few details that reflect the designer’s discipline. You will never hear Nina say “it’s over-designed” about anything from ISON because the designer in control. Continue reading →
I love the adorable floral blouse and skater skirt that NYU just released for the Wayward Hunt. You will have to hunt for it at the main store because this color will not be sold after the hunt is over. I always love separates because that gives me options to wear the pieces with other items.
I stopped by the beach at Terracotta but I did not wade in as I have new shoes from Ingenue (available at this month’s Collabor88 for now) and wanted to keep them dry. Continue reading →
For me, ironing has always been a peaceful relaxing activity. I would set up the ironing board in the living room by the couch and have the unearned in a basket on one side and an empty basket on the other to place the newly ironed pieces. I would lower the ironing board so I could sit on the couch and watch something on television while I ironed and work away. It’s quiet, peaceful and easy to do, so ironing was a favorite chore.
One of the fears people have about adopting mesh heads is that we will become clones of each other – all looking the same, but that is not something we really need to fear. There are many mesh heads from which to choose. There are many skins that can be applied to each head. Different hair colors and styles, different eyes, different skins with varied makeup. All theses styling choices give us variation. If you doubt that, look at this showcase. Sure, I would love a mesh version of my own face, but with the many mesh heads out there, it is possible to find something close. The Ever head from Lelutka is the one that feels closest for me.
