Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice has a gorgeous zip dress called Damie at Uber this month. It comes in 10 color combinations, all with gold zippers and a gold belt. She also has a coordinating clutch on sale at Uber, but I left it in the car while i took a walk on the beach. šŸ™‚

I remembered LiValle’s gorgeous Classico zipper shoes and dug out a pair to wear with the dress. Zippers R Us.

With apologies to The Ramones.

They’re shopping in a straight line,
They’re bouncing off a full sim,
the fashionistas are losing their minds.
Collabor88 Bop.

Hey ho, let’s go! hey ho, let’s go!
Hey ho, let’s go! hey ho, let’s go!

They’re piling on the mesh bits,
Trying to to make it all fit,
Pretty in Punk’s a big hit.
Collabor88 Bop.

Hey ho, let’s go
Shoot’em in the back now
What they want, I don’t know
They’re all dressed up and ready to go

Magnolias and the Lilies of the Field

150324_003
One of the surprises when I moved to Oregon were the magnificent magnolia trees. I had seen them in pictures, of course, but I thought of them as southern trees, not trees to flourish in the Pacific Northwest. But flourish they do. They are in bloom now.

Magnolias have such a grandiose beauty, without fear of being gaudy or flamboyant. They just are what they are. They don’t hide their exuberance, their size or their extravagance. It reminds me of one of my favorite Bible verses, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow;they toil not, neither do they spin, yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

The scarf that is belted to this dress from NYU reminds me a bit of the exuberant magnolia petals. With a color-change HUD, there are 10 plain or 10 print scarf options. The dress itself comes in 10 colors that match the scarf options.

The Healing Power of Sprites

150225_003

We can imbue talismans with tremendous power through the powers of faith and suggestion. If you believe something will work for you; it often will. Monica Outlander of MiaMai has created in real life and now in Second LifeĀ®, a collection of talismanic sprites that Ā can bring health and happiness to those who invest the power of belief in them. If your worldview is more prosaic and devoid of supernatural beliefs, they can also be enjoyed for their quirky adorability and the come with a magnificent free shelf that can be used to display these sprites, but I think I will also rez a few more of these shelves for otters things as well.

There’s also a home protection sprite hanging on a branch that is equally adorable. The gorgeous house is the Hudson Townhouse from Scarlet Creative and can be found at Collabor88 this month.

That’s How the Boy Gets the Girl in the Movies

150214_003

I wore the Vivianne dress from Lassitude & Ennui (at Collabor88) when I DJ’ed at The Velvet’s Valentine’s Day party. It’s such a romantic dress with it’s froth of lace at the hem. One of my favorite songs I played for the party was “That’s How the Boy Gets the Girl in the Movies” by Emily West. I hope you will play the YouTubeĀ® visit.Ā

I heard it happens.
It’s never happened to me.

I stareĀ by the window,
If he’s there, it’s only just a dream
Just a dream.

Birds in the sky will be singing theĀ song.
The sun will be shining when hisĀ car pulls up.

Oh, I long for the day and the way it should be.
Expected temptations are waiting for me.

Cause that’s how the boy gets the girl in the movies.
Kisses that make her the star of the show.
He’ll buy you roses and make you feel pretty.
Hold the umbrella when he walks you home.

It’s Hollywood. It’s heaven.
It’s everything perfect above.
When a girl falls in love.

In Which the Blogger Gushes Uncontrollably

15Feb10_007

I fell in love with the Nayra long skirt released by Baistice’s Sissy Pessoa at February’s Collaboir88. Released in a range of colors, it was released with a matching set of sweaters for the modernist fashion of elevating casual elements by mixing them with formal. pieces. There are several reasons I love this skirt in particular. In fact, let me list them.

  1. The pleating allows it to move without texture stretching.
  2. The texture’s details with the pleats highlights, shadows and doubtless make it come alive.
  3. It falls at the natural waist, which I think is the most flattering choice.
  4. It mixes and matches with simplicity as you can see in this s post as I not only use the accompanying sweater that was released by Baiastice, but also with two other tops from a different store.

Here I have a much more formal look in rouge.

And this is a sweet, charming old-fashioned look.Ā  Continue reading

In the Desert

150407_004

I could never live in the desert. It is not just that I do not like heat, but also that my psyche needs green. I discovered this after I moved to Montana for a time to help my sister. I was unaccountably depressed while I was there, sleeping much more than usual, lethargic, weepy and not at all my usual self.

Then I decided to take my nephew on a college tour back to Minnesota. When we got toward the eastern side of South Dakota and the brilliant greens of a well-watered landscape came into view, my heart lifted. I felt a euphoria that was so intense it felt as though I were floating. In that moment, I realized that my misery was more to do with the colors of the landscape than any other factor. I moved within two months, back to where the land was green.

150407_001

That does not keep me from appreciating and loving the stark beauty of the desert. The subtle striations of color, the cracked and blistered earth, the desiccated silver of the tree trunks and the hazy dustiness of the succulents are beautiful. I love the plane geometry of the landscape that we cannot see when covered with an abundance of flowers, bushes, grasses and trees. There is something magnificent and courageous about the flora and the fauna eking out a life in these marginal landscapes. There is a profundity in this life of scarcity – this life on the margins.

But it is not for me. I want a green land. Give me the entire green rainbow from the palest milk green of an Easter Rose to the deepest darkest greens of a Doug Fir. I need green to live. It’s that fundamental. But, one of the nice things about Second LifeĀ® is that I can visit the beauty of the desert without the heat or the misery. And the desert at ISON is particularly beautiful – a living desert, not an ocean of sand. Continue reading

Catching Up

Snapshot

I shot these pics a few days ago wearing an outfit featuring items from last month’s Collabor88. Don’t despair, you can now find them in the store. The top, leggings and boots are all from Tres Blah. They come with a puffy jacket, too, but I left that off. Growing up in a place where it’s really cold, I have never understood those puffy jackets with no sleeves as anything more than an extra lining if your coat is not warm enough.

White and Black

Snapshot

I was playing with lights and shadows using a single narrow line of white light for my projector. The background prim is white and the blackness comes from wind light set to 100% black everything and bringing gamma down to 0. Then the only light there is comes from the projector. The thin sliver of light in the dark made me feel very noir

I love the modernist simplicity of NYU’s new Thalia coat. Eschewing all the usual outerwear detailing, the epaulettes, the fabric belt, the stitched edging and the rows of buttons, itsĀ design details areĀ a simple notched collar and a single button. This is simplicity at its most stark and striking. I wanted to maintain that sensibility in styling and kept to a monochromatic palette of white with touches of black and silver. I chose cigarette pants from One Bad Pixel for their clean and simple lines.

SnapshotI added a fedora (color-change) from Argace that I have had for ages. I also added a touch of whimsy with CAE’s lovely BlizzardĀ earrings in silver.

My pumps are from Glamistry and are as chic as can be. The come with a color change HUD that allows me to select the color of the metal (silver, copper and gold) and the platform, heel and body separately. However, I did not go for parti-colored shoes with my monochrome mission. There’s a lot of intelligence behind the Glamistry brand – which allows you to add color components to your HUD so if you kick yourself for buying just one color, you can add more later without proliferating your inventory with pairs and pairs of shoes.

My skin choice is Sia (FairTales), a new release from Glam Affair for Collabor88 that features soft and ethereal makeups, several with bright, fun colors.
