Escapism

“Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment.”
Alexander McQueen said “Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of punishment.” I agree, we should wear what makes us happy and only follow those trends that appeal to us. After all, style is more important than fashion and style is about our choices. There are always wonderful choices in Second Life®.

I have also finally figured out how to make Marketplace work again and uploaded the projector I used to shoot these pictures.

Awaiting Myself on Both Sides

I am the shore and the ocean, awaiting myself on both sides.

I am the shore and the ocean,
awaiting myself on both sides.

I travel
always arriving in the same place.”
  ― Dejan Stojanovic, The Shape

Yesterday was a hard day for me. My mind was occupied with thoughts of friends in extremis, whose difficulties and hardships I cannot lighten. It was also the second anniversary of Squinternet’s death and I still miss her open-hearted friendship and humor. I guess in Second Life, as in my my first, when feeling sad and ineffective, I head for the water for new energy. Whether I find myself lakeside or on the shore of the sea or an ocean, there is something about the inexorable sound of the waves that comforts me. No matter what, the waves will continue, an infinite sound loop that I find comforting.

I am the shore and the ocean, awaiting myself on both sides.

I may have felt sad on the inside, but I looked anything but on the outside. I was wearing this indecently sexy new swimsuit from Liziaah. It comes in five colors. I chose the Aqua, as you can see. The folder comes with all the standard sizes plus one made to fit Slink Physique, which I am wearing. I love the marine inspired embellishments that make me think this is the sort of swimsuit that Diane de Poitiers might have worn if Henry II had been the king of Atlantis instead of France.

The Whole Is Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts

One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art. - Oscar Wilde

With fashion, one plus one does not always equal two. For example, what I am wearing today combines two pieces from Liziaah into something new. I think the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. After all, there are three outfits, not two.

One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art. - Oscar Wilde

I was drawn to both the dress and the top from Liziaah. I noticed they both had similar embellishment, common in a collection where designers seek to find unifying elements. I though they might work together

Hair Fair Designers — MissAllSunday Lemon

I have been wearing Wasabi Pills since 2008, though the first year I was wearing Wasabi Pills skin and then later, when she began wearing hair, I started wearing her hair, too. Between Gidge and me, there are nearly 200 posts with Wasabi Pills hair. I do not know if I was one of the first to blog her items, but I do remember that when I first blogged her skin, she sent me a warm and friendly note. I also remember how when mesh hit the grid, she hit the ground running as if all that time before mesh was just preparation for mesh when she really got into creating a new level.

Hair Fair Designers — Alice Demonia

I wore my first Alice Project hair three years ago this month. Alice Project holds a special place in my heart for scaring me the first time I put on an all white hair that I applied a texture to. I am certain there was an involuntary squeak or two before I realized I had not broken it and just had to add the hud and click. We are friends on Plurk and I don’t think I will be telling any deep, dark secrets if I tell you she has a wicked, sardonic sense of humor. And as you can see from her favorite photo, “Nobody parties like Alice Demonia.”

Hair Fair may be closed, but you will be able to find these styles in the stores. I have some remaining profiles to do, so on we go.

It’s Only Fashion: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest? Is there a story you can share that captures your Second Life experience?

Alice Demonia: My Second Life has been pretty boring, I think, hahah. When I first started, I did the standard exploring and trolling and laughing at various sex related sims. That’s probably the most excitement I’ve had. Nowadays, I’m notorious for AFKing at my friends’ platforms or sims for days. I tend to just sort of set up wherever I am, if they’re open to that. The Flickr photo I’ve included is the product of one day where I logged in at a friend’s and everyone just decided to start throwing down things around me, lol. Continue reading

In which I share a playlist from Spotify

aug27_007

Monday nights I DJ at The Velvet. I thought you might enjoy listening to my set on Spotify. This was my outfit I wore for DJing – a dress that I wore as a top and some pants.  I love the shapes and the edgy, fashion forward design.

The dress is from La Penderie de Nicole and has a very modern look with its exaggerated batwing shoulders. It is aptly names My Bat Dress. It comes with a tartan belt and a tweed belt and is a preview of Marcopol Oh’s coming fall collection. Happily the inside of the skirt is lined so the skirt looks good from all angles. I would like to have seen a similar lining of just a few inches on the sleeves and the top as there are angles where the alpha shows.
