Endymion

The dress is Blossom from Rock Me Amadeus. The shrug is from Little Rebel which has closed.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its lovliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.

A dress called Blossom has to be shot among the flowers

Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,

Pink Shirt Day:How Bullies Made Me Gidge

posted by Gidge Uriza

When I was in High School, I was plagued by being smart enough to take classes ahead of my own grade level. My sophomore year I ended up in a Senior Level biology class, and had this misfortune to take a seat in the midst of three jock bullies on day one of class.

I should’ve known, should’ve switched seats when I heard one of them whisper “This chick looks smart, let’s get her at our table she can do all the work.”

And our teacher, intimidated by the fact that at 17 years old these mongrols were man sized – turned the cheek as week after week they harrassed and bullied me.  They would steal my work and copy it, break anything of mine they could get their hands on. They’d pull stools out from under me so that I’d fall when I tried to sit down, poke me with pins so that I would move my arm that they could copy my work.

But the most annoying thing they’d do, believe it or not, was call me Gidget at first and then after weeks passed – Gidge. Oh my god their neanderthal brains thought that this was hilarious – as my RL name is Bridgette. THE SHEER WIT OF IT NEARLY COLLAPSED THEM WITH LAUGHTER. Continue reading

DIY Costumes: Shop Your Inventory

posted by Gidge Uriza

I happened to be logged in during the day last Sunday and our friend Maht was doing a Halloween set from THE VELVET – his usual Sunday spot. I didn’t have a lot of notice before his set started and it was a Halloween party so I fretted for a bit about who to be.

Then it occurred to me that this old Free Speerit hair ELISE has a banana clip.

Putting together the rest of Sarah Palin was just TOO easy. Glasses from Prim Optic and a conservative dress from Little Rebel (I MISS LITTLE REBEL) and VOILA I was done. Continue reading

Mix It Up

Every fashionista should have a few highwaisted skirts in her inventory and you can get great ones from many places including MichaMi, Pixel Dolls and literally dozens of stores. The reason to have them is that they are great to toss into the mix when you want to take a top from a dress, jacket or suit and use it in a new way. For example, this jacket from Silent Sparrow comes from an pants outfit and is part of a long jacket with tails. I wasn’t in the mood for tails, but I was just loving the autumn feel of the jacket – and decided it would be a blouse for the day…and all it took was adding a skirt that would tuck it in. And so was able to enjoy the rich texture and intricate details of this gorgeous top – in a new way.

My Grandma Had a Sofa Just Like That

posted by Gidge Uriza

Every once in a while I end up with boy clothes from creators, and I always have to try them on. Because I never know when I’m going to find a gem.  This jacket came to me from Bobo’s Masquerade (who also sent me girl clothes I haven’t tried on yet) and is part of a big men’s swashbuckler type outfit.

The instant I put on the tapestry textured jacket – I just knew which was I was going. I don’t know if you are familiar with Graham Norton of the BBC, but he dresses impeccably yet creatively – and one night Dolly Parton was the guest on his show. Continue reading

Fabulous Fashion TV – It's Fabulous!

posted by Gidge Uriza

I spent a ridiculous amount of time agonizing over what to wear during my 8 minutes of fame on Fabulous Fashion TV.  In addition to being unbelievably disorganized, confused and tardy during the entire process – I was nervous.

Unbelievably so.

I ended up wearing PXL Creations Nails instead of these Black Nails

I ended up wearing PXL Creations Nails instead of these Black Nails

Here is the kind of paranoid crap that ran through my mind.

  • Who should I wear?
  • Will someone be insulted if I DON’T wear them?
  • Should I wear what I’m talking about or not?
  • What sort of look should I go for?
  • Should I go for any look at all?
  • Would Would Joan Jett Do?

So all this aside, I decided to embrace the stylists credo (after all I was the guest stylist although I wasn’t doing Angie Mornington’s hair) and wear all black. They do this to minimize their own fabulousness and to make it all about YOU – if you’ve ever wondered why some do that. Really upscale places tend to (or neutral colors). Continue reading

A Velvet Sunday

posted by Gidge Uriza

Our friend Maht was dj-ing at the Velvet a couple of weeks ago and I actually was able to get in world during the day, so I thought I’d pop over and visit my friends and listen to his set.

This was exactly the excuse I needed to pull out these plaid pants from Little Rebel. The set comes with three pair of pants and this tintable tank and was exactly the sort of comfy/indie look I wanted at the Velvet that afternoon. Continue reading

The Clothing Fair – A Post Where No One Complains

posted by Gidge Uriza

My biggest concern going to the Relay for Life Clothing Fair was truly, what I PERSONALLY was going to wear.  I like the Challenge of putting on something Low ARC and looking good – and positively impacting my own experience in what can otherwise sometimes be LAG HELL of Fairs and Expos. Martini Time at Jack & Belle's

posted by Gidge Uriza

My social season may be off, because just when “The Season” should be wrapping up for RL – I’m suddenly social butterfly this weekend.  I had logged in on Friday night to putz about and received an invitation to Belle LeFavre and her husband Jackson’s party they were hosting.

I wasn’t dressed properly but had picked up several cocktail type dresses at Little Rebel recently so I picked out one called Martini Time and popped over. Continue reading

R-E-S-P-E-C-T for FLAIR

posted by Gidge Uriza

You find precious few people to respect on the grid. Oh don’t get me wrong – I always find LOTS of people to LIKE. But I’m a bit drawn to rakes and ruffians of various ilk -so the grid really is like mother’s milk in that department.

But when you talk about RESPECT, people with true ethics and who “do the right thing” well….ok they’re few and far between.  Which is why I’m giving a shout out to my friend Sasy Scarborough, the creator of the shoes on my feet.  Sasy is one of those people, that after I have a moment where my only response is *BLINK* – I IM Sasy and say “SASY! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?”

Or “Sasy, why does this look this way? Is this INTENTIONAL what the hell?”

They are only available on Xstreet, the former SLX. You can get them in a MULTITUDE of colors HERE. (I am wearing the dollarbies, so you can pick up one pair to check them out and then go buy the rest because you are addicted). Continue reading
