Meet the Hair Fair Designers: Euryops Lemon of Cheveux

Cheveux Open Cafe by Mariru Catnap

What drew you to designing hair? When did you start? What are some of the changes that were most significant for you?

I started making hair flow products three months ago. We have been making hair since 2008. The most important thing for me is to make hair that looks real. Land Impact is aimed at light and yet delicate design

How did you choose your store name? Does it have a special meaning for you? If your stores is named after yourself, how did you go about choosing your avatar name?

CHEVEUX in French is hair. I wanted to make global hair loved by people all over the world.

a tangle of mysterious prejudices

It is here in my heart and mind and memories

Baiastice Turban at Hair Fair Bandana Booth

The writer Shana Alexander wrote,”Hair brings one’s self-image into focus; it is vanity’s proving ground. Hair is terribly personal, a tangle of mysterious prejudices.” This was brought home to me when visiting my sister who has lost her hair to chemotherapy. Most of the time, she wore a jaunty cap on her head, but she also had a couple wigs. One for each time she got cancer. Get cancer, win a prize! She would dither over what to wear, trying on hats, scarves and her two wigs, turning her head this way and that. It was terribly important because it, more than anything else, allows her to feel normal, to go out into the world without confronting the avid concern of the people she encounters. She does not want her cancer to be prayed over or a topic of conversation. She knows what will be will be and she’s doing her damnedest to struggle to live well while she is living.

Imagine for a moment, how much more important that must be for a child. To not have to deal with questions or pity. Pity is hard to take. It is corrosive and erodes your sense of self, your agency, your power. Does anyone really, deep in their hearts, want pity? Compassion, understanding, empathy? Yes, a thousand times, but pity? Never.

Children feel the same emotions that adults do, but they don’t necessarily have the tools to protect themselves from intrusive curiosity or well-meaning but painful pity, or even worse, the mockery of unkind and unthinking children. For them, a wig can be a shield from pain, the armor of confidence. That is why Hair Fair is so important – raising funds to buy wigs for children suffering for whatever kind of hair loss, whether from alopecia or from chemotherapy.

Buckle Up for Hair Fair

Buckled Up for Hair Fair

I decided it is time to buckle up for Hair Fair and how better to do that than with the fabulously buckled dress from Zenith at Collabor88 this month. I added the incredible Bastet arm bands from Pixicat that were released at Arcade about 6 months ago and a pair of sunglasses from this month’s Baiastice releases for Collabor88.

Selected Short Cuts and Updos at Hair Fair

Hair Fair opened at midnight and in the overwhelming excitement of “shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen…beautiful hair” it is easy to forget the purpose of Hair Fair. It isn’t actually all about the hair. Well, actually it is, but the hair it is about it not made of pixels. It’s made of love.

Flipping For Hair Fair

Flipping For Hair Fair

Hair Fair 2016 opened at midnight and I was so excited I was flipping with joy. Also because I wanted to show off my lovely espadrilles from Mutresse released at Collabor88. Wow! Autocorrect turns Mutresse into Mutters, now that’s one for the books.

Hair Fair is always the most anticipated fundraising event of the year. There are several reasons for it. First, it’s hair. Second, every year the planning and execution is better than the year before. Now, when you may have thought they reached the pinnacle of perfect planning last year and they could not possibly get better, but yet, somehow they did. The biggest change this year was not inward, but was instead on the Hair Fair web site where you will find a gallery of all the shops and all the hairs, a guide to Hair Fair at your fingertips.

Quick Snaps @ Hair Fair

The theme is a movie lot of middle America. It’s all very fun with rows of tract housing for the stores. I know with the guide, you could just pop in and out, but don’t forget how much fun it is to see what they designers get up to decorating their shops.

Candy For Breakfast – My Hair Fair Reward

Oh girls. I hoofed it across the expanse of the Hair Fair, walking into EACH AND EVERY booth and I’ve got to tell you, it’s just AMAZING this year.

I demo’d more than I’ve probably ever demo’d – in my pre “mesh head” life I never bothered, but I DO encourage it greatly now as some folks might not make to fit YOUR head and then you’ll be hosed. I highly recommend – if you have not done so, join the DEMO group where all the lovely designers send the demos!

https://hairfair.wordpress.com/2016/07/12/hair-fair-demo-group-join-now – this is your link!

This way, you can try out everything and make your shopping list and battle plans. Planning is key when we’re shopping!  Continue reading

Well, that was easy!

Damselfly Marnie_001

Damselfly Marnie hair and Azuchi Suma dress

If you have been following this blog lately, you know that Hair Fair happened and while it was happening, I have been publishing interviews with Hair Fair designers. I got a notecard back from one on Sunday. It was from Shyla Honey of Damselfly and began with an apology because she had been out of town for two weeks and wanted me to know she had not been ignoring my notecard queries. I didn’t read the rest because I was in a bit of hurry.

I popped over to Hair Fair to buy the two of her Hair Fair releases I had not already purchased and pick up the gifts and shot my pictures of all her hairs. Then I opened the notecard back up and realized that the note was all she sent, reasonably assuming since Hair Fair was ending, I would not continue the interviews. Oh well, at least I have all the pictures.

I decided to wear this dress from Azuchi because it has that  huge ruffle across the bodice that normally conflicts with hair and Damselfly hair is often long and curly and exactly the sort of hair likely to cause problems with a bodice ruffle. Not that I was looking for trouble, but I chose it because a few design decisions were made that address that problem well. You will note that you get the full ruffle, it has gathers in it and makes the bold design statement, but it is crafted to lay close to the bodice, avoiding conflicts. It’s a bit of trompe l’oeil and it works well.

I have been wearing Wasabi Pills since 2008, though the first year I was wearing Wasabi Pills skin and then later, when she began wearing hair, I started wearing her hair, too. Between Gidge and me, there are nearly 200 posts with Wasabi Pills hair. I do not know if I was one of the first to blog her items, but I do remember that when I first blogged her skin, she sent me a warm and friendly note. I also remember how when mesh hit the grid, she hit the ground running as if all that time before mesh was just preparation for mesh when she really got into creating a new level.

Hair Fair Designers — Alice Demonia

I wore my first Alice Project hair three years ago this month. Alice Project holds a special place in my heart for scaring me the first time I put on an all white hair that I applied a texture to. I am certain there was an involuntary squeak or two before I realized I had not broken it and just had to add the hud and click. We are friends on Plurk and I don’t think I will be telling any deep, dark secrets if I tell you she has a wicked, sardonic sense of humor. And as you can see from her favorite photo, “Nobody parties like Alice Demonia.”

Hair Fair may be closed, but you will be able to find these styles in the stores. I have some remaining profiles to do, so on we go.

It’s Only Fashion: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest? Is there a story you can share that captures your Second Life experience?

Alice Demonia: My Second Life has been pretty boring, I think, hahah. When I first started, I did the standard exploring and trolling and laughing at various sex related sims. That’s probably the most excitement I’ve had. Nowadays, I’m notorious for AFKing at my friends’ platforms or sims for days. I tend to just sort of set up wherever I am, if they’re open to that. The Flickr photo I’ve included is the product of one day where I logged in at a friend’s and everyone just decided to start throwing down things around me, lol. Continue reading

Hair Fair Designers — Helena Stringer

Our Lady of the Bugs was the first hairdo I purchased from The Stringer Mausoleum, long ago for Halloween 2008. Her work is instantly recognizable because it is wild and exuberantly creative, full of wit and a dollop of kookiness. It entertains as well as adorns.

It’s Only Fashion: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life®? Most exciting? Silliest? Is there a story you can share that captures your Second Life experience?

Helena Stringer: The Craziest Thing I have ever done in SL® would probably be taking the reigns of Media Manager for a rather large event, 2 weeks before it was to open. I learned a lot, and was rather successful at it. There was over 200 designers in that event, and I managed to get each of them covered at least 2 times, by a team of 60 bloggers. I did this while being in 13 Events/Hunts/Rounds myself for my own store as well as running the Main Site for the Event, which had a tem and daily postings. Would I do it again? Probably, I am crazy like that, haha. Continue reading
