Wednesday Wandering – PREPARE FOR EXTRACTION

So a friend of mine on plurk has been chatting up about adventures on mainland for some time now, talking about a magical backpack that just transports you ANYWHERE and boom there you are.

It sounds nutty and I’m pretty sure that by now you know, I LOVE THINGS THAT ARE NUTTY. So I had to get one. I’ve decided that until I forget about it or get bored or decide not to do it anymore, I’m going to make Wednesdays about some random exploration. I had a ridiculous time doing it today. A Quick Trip to Greenland

Curiosity that inborn property of man, daughter of ignorance and mother of knowledge when wonder wakens our minds, has the habit, wherever it sees some extraordinary phenomenon of nature, a comet for example, a sun-dog, or a midday star, of asking straigh

I stopped by Groenland today for a short visit. Most of the mass of Greenland is ice, but not on this sim. I guess it’s in one of the areas where the ice has been melting. It reminded me of “Rotten Ice” an excellent article in Harpers by Gretel Ehrlich. It seemed appropriate during the cold snap affecting much of America which prompted the popular-vote-losing President to show he does not know the difference between climate and weather. Sadly, far too many politicians don’t know the difference or they pretend not to know. Sometimes it’s hard to believe they are that ignorant, then I listen to Louis Gohmert and realize there’s no such thing as not too ignorant.

Stories & Folklore

With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

The theme for Collabor88 this month is StoryTime and the creations showcased are a rich display of folkloric traditions and influences. There is a lot of embroidery, a lot of beautiful colors and rich traditional fabrics. Sissy Pessoa ran with the idea into a more modern direction with this gown and capelet. It has all the traditional flower forms, but the dress itself is quite modern and made even more so in the sheer version.

With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

The Sea of Love

Mami Jewell of AZUL probably designs more gowns than anyone for the Miss SL competitions. The Linette gown was designed for Miss Indonesia Mio Linette and it comes in twelve standard colors and two limited edition colors. When I walked in the gown the ebb and flow of the feathers at the bottom made me think of the gracefully flowing fins of a beta fish, so for fun I headed to Borinquin Zyn’s underwater tableau where there are underwater animations. Below the cut, you can see a video I made and see what I mean about this lovely gown.

Lost in the Labyrinth

The Labyrinth of Absurdity

I had a lot of fun in Second Life yesterday. I went to the Kamera Klub event at The Velvet where a bunch of folks dressed up as The Cramps and The Beatles for a two hour pose-off (Gidge did the poses as Status was an event sponsor) and musical duel and where I got a couple lovely compliments on this dress and jacket combo from Baiastice. Then I rushed off to the Labyrinth of Absurdity where I shot these blog photos. It’s an amazing spot and I will return to shoot there again as there are several installations, this one with my friend on the swing here being only one.
