Bundled Up

I decided to go out exploring the winter fun to be had in SL today, so I had to take a bit to get properly geared up. Cute but warm is the goal – it’s hard to be cute sometimes, especially in RL, when you’re layered upon layers upon layers. I decided to have some fun with my ability to layer on my SLINK PHYSIQUE starting with a sweater from Stellar on the body, then adding mesh over it for a cute RL layered look. I think it works nicely.  Continue reading

The Alchemy of Color

112214_005

Alchemy is more a philosophy than a study. A belief that somehow base metals can be transmuted into fine metals, as water is into wine in Christian communions. In the abstract, though, we can think of alchemy as the process of changing elements by bringing them together. This modern kimono from Atomic has some alchemical magic of its own coming in 3 colors and 6 tank colors that can be transmuted with a HUD. The other alchemy at play is adding an overlay of a light leak to add some color to my blue sky. You can download that video and screenshot individual light leaks from it. I used this particular capture.

In this shot, you can see the gorgeous amethyst crystal necklace from BOOM at Collabor88. There is a lot of interest in crystals for use in healing and balancing our lives – a belief that they focus energy. I think they are pretty and that is all they need to do. The gorgeous manicure is from FLAIR.

Friend or “Friend”

141106_008

Bizza’s Asymmetrical Jacket is fun, casual and goes perfectly with the Josie pants. The Josie pants come with a HUD offering three options for each pair of pants. The details on these pants are out of this world.

Most of our friends are not our friends; they are acquaintances, contacts, colleagues and associates. However, in social media, we lump the people on our mobilization phone trees together with those for whom we would give up a kidney. The act of reading each others timelines foster that sense of shared intimacy that is the hallmark of real friendship. The boundaries blur and sometimes we invest more emotionally in those who are merely ships passing by, mistaking acquaintanceship for friendship. More than one person has been devastated recently by opinions of “friends” they have mistaken for friends.

However true friendship requires more than knowing the name of my cat or my political persuasion. Friendship is an investment in trust and intimacy. We share our best selves with our “friends” and share our flaws with our friends. You know someone is your friend when you know you can safely confess some petty, spiteful thoughts and feeling, secure that your friendship will not falter. That is why the opinions of “friends” should be taken lightly. They know of us. They know about us. They do not know us.

Early AM Studio Time

FAMESHED has another great round in store for you, and this gorgeous gown from Baiastice is beautiful. I love the washed out watercolor looks of the texture where it pools on the floor. Darkley posted a different color on her blog and styled it differently.  You can see it’s amazing whether worn very minimally styled or with accoutrements.  My computer is trying to spell accoutrements incorrectly. It’s driving me nuts. It keeps underlining it in red, and then I check it with a dictionary, no I’m right. What cretin set the spell check on this machine?

But I digress. Continue reading

Games People Play

jun26_001

When your television reception varies depending on the cloud cover, you tend not to get addicted to watching any particular program since you never know what channels you will receive at any given time. We lived too far from town for cable and did not have a satellite dish, so we did not watch a lot of television. Instead we played a lot of games, including dominoes. It was not the family favorite; that was whist. We also really liked canasta, cribbage,  and Scrabble® . But Dominoes had its rotation in the games we played during those bitterly cold winter evenings. I have a game ready in my living room anytime you want to play.

jun26_003My outfit is playful today, a flirty little top with a print of license plants from Osito that I bought at Fashion For Life last week and a bi-color leather skirt from NYU for Fameshed this month. This skirt comes in all sorts of colors and I was hard-ressed to choose one.

Change Is Good

Convair has released a new house that is perfect for those of us who dwell next to the water, or heck for anyone who likes wide open spaces inside their home. I’ve just started to settle in, it takes me a while to sort out what from the old I will keep and what I want that is new. The Pinewood Cottage has a large open floorplan on the first floor and I’ve already gotten the dining area and the kitchen started.

The Darya Dining set from Trompe Loeil is available at Fameshed and comes in a variety of seasonal or neutral tones, plus you can put out plates and flatware as you like, based on you prim allowance. I have chosen the SPRING set with the blues and pinks as accents. I’ve added a mexican feast from Rassassy that I picked up last year.  Continue reading

Bohemian Spirit

Everyone and their mother is probably going to be blogging this dress this weekend and for good reason, it’s fucking gorgeous. I’m not often inspired to find my inner bohemian spirit but this outfit certainly channels it.

The dress and headband are from Zenith and can be found at the new round of FAMESHED. I love how it gathers at the bottom, like, you found the dress in your grandmother’s closet and she was a a little bit taller than you but you didn’t care because it’s so gorgeous.

On Justice

0501_006

While National Poetry Month has ended, there is no reason to stop enjoying poetry the other eleven months of the year. In my last post, I mentioned Langston Hughes was one of my favorite poets. One of his most striking, and shortest, poems is On Justice where he turns the metaphor of blind Justice and subverts it – to a different kind of blindness.

That Justice is a blind goddess
Is a thing to which we black are wise:
Her bandage hides two festering sores
That once perhaps were eyes.

Law Day 2014

This month the SL Bar Association and Justitia Virtual Legal Resource will again celebrate the law and highlight current issues and controversies in the law. A special focus will be on Voting Rights – and a pernicious effort to reduce some people’s access to the ballot. You should go and learn about the current challenges to our liberties and to our right to vote. Hughes’ poem is particularly apt now that the Supreme Court has invalidated Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act in an act of willful blindness to reality of racism in America.

I go out to work on a Monday morning
Tuesday I go off to honeymoon
I’ll be back again before it’s time for Sunny-down,
I’ll be lazing on a Sunday afternoon Continue reading
