Contrary Me

So I got a IM to e-mail from Micah Kanto the other day alerting me that his marvelous Modern Gypsy was back open again after its renovation. Not just open, but open with a brand new spring collection.  Sadly I was at work and had to wait on tenterhooks all day before rushing home, logging in and checking it out. I was not disappointed. You saw the first of my purchases the other day – a bright purple retro print dress. This outfit though is the one that made me smile. It’s called Couture Suit (Male) and I think it is for men in that it’s man-sized and prim editing was a bit tricky since they were set not to be modifiable. Sometimes, however,  only the conglomerate is not modifiable and the individual components can be modified. By selecting individual prims in the belt, for example, I was able to resize it a bit smaller.  I didn’t resize anything else, though. The thing is, I love the silhouette with the huge shoulders and sweeping flare on the jacket, the bright bold silver fabric. It’s not for the faint of heart.

More Ivalde Love

Okay, this is probably bad form – blogging a freebie that is no longer available, but I wanted to highlight Neferia Abel’s generosity as well as show you how simple accessories like a belt and a shrug can change your look.  This was a fairly vampish sheath, but with the shrug, the sleeveless vamp quality is dialed down and the modishness is dialed up. You see, any freebie from Neferia is just as well-made as her regular items and could just as easily be on the wall with all the other items for sale. Not only that, but she she has given an item a day during Christmas Advent season – this particular dress was an Advent present from 2007.  Her group members often get one free color of her new releases (or they did when I was still a group member) I had to drop the group a while back because of space issues, but still remember rushing to get the free color and perhaps one or two other shades when a new dress came out.

Bright Lights, Big City

Sadly I could never finish the book Bright Lights, Big City even though I generally like Jay McInerny. Something about reading an entire book in the second person is just too daunting. Still, the jacket from Chantkare is called Brite Lite which made me think of the novel…and then this pose is such a “model” pose that it also made me think of how the main character would look at mannequins in shop windows and imagine they were his wife.  Blog post titles are so hard to come up iwth sometimes and the tenuous connections that create them can be bizarre.  Not bizarre, however, is the Brite Lite tweed jacket.  It’s marvelous and makes me think of Chanel.  I love jackets and this one is just so well structured.

Dance the night away!

Sunday afternoon Maht did one of his best sets ever at the Velvet – a homage to the great songwriters and I was ready to dance because I was eager to try out the new dances from Akeyo in a group. I prefer dances that don’t make the men dancing with me on my HUD look silly, and these Akeyo dances really fit the bill. Animazoo has some great ones, too, by the way. No disrespect to Sine Wave, which also produces some good club dances. It’s just that I cringe when I see a guy doing OMG. What can I say?   Anyway, eager to dance, I decided a nice miniskirt and tights would suit and sure enough they did.

Oh playmate, come out and play with me

Now if we moved this shelf over there and that shelf over here...

Looking at the last few posts, you might think my weekend was long on glamour and formal occasions which is far from the truth considering the one big event I planned to attend, I missed by dilly-dallying. Speaking of dilly-dallying – here’s one of the places I dallied a lot this weekend, The Hollow Forest. More specifically, the children’s room in the house there.  As soon as I saw it I thought of the old song.

Oh playmate, come out and play with me
And bring your dollies three.
Climb up my apple tree,
Look down my rain barrel
Slide down my cellar door
And we’ll be jolly friends forever more.

When the Moon is in the Seventh House

I had one priority during last night’s pajama party/sneak peek at the Hair Expo. Come what may, I was going to find the incredible Kaori hair from Exile and snatch it up. And I did and thanks to that, you see it here in all its wild disarray. I am in love.

So, the Hair Expo? Laggy of course, but hey, swimming and shopping at the same time must do wonders of aerobic goodness for your pixel heart. Overwhelming – so much hair and only one head. But we all know what it really is. It’s the Fashionista’s Big Rock Candy Mountain!

But that’s not all today, Stiletto Moody has new shoes though she’s only teasing up by letting us see them. They don’t go on sale until 6PM tonight. Still, a girls gotta look. Continue reading

Purrfectly Delightful

Excuse my while I purr.

When I saw the ad for this jacket on the feed the other day, it was one of those “gotta have it” moments – though I will confess I blanched at the cost. Nonetheless, jackets are generally good investments and this one look lots of work and it shows. Continue reading

The Cutest Denim Skirt in the Whole Wide World

No, I don’t think that’s hyperbole. I am not a denim lover. I don’t own jeans in RL, when I need to dress casual, I like a nice cotton duck or serge, not denim. So, falling in love with anything denim is a small miracle. But who could resist this delightfully spunky and sassy denim skirt? The prim connection and fit is perfect without even a wiggle’s worth of adjustment. The colors match, the seams line up and it all adds up to a beautiful and perky little summer skirt.

Dotty About Creamshop

Let’s clear one thing up first. I love polka dots. Not surprisingly, they are named after the dance, but only because at the time textile manufacturers were producing the polka dot fabrics, the polka was the hottest dance craze around. Just think, if polka dots had not come out then, but say in the 20’s the may have been Charleston Dots or Shimmy Dots. If they were named today, what would they be called? Crump Dots? I kind of like the name Shimmy Dots, but I don’t suppose we could persuade the world to change the name.

Creamshop makes two delicious polka dot skirts in one lovely fatpack. I am wearing the black with gold dots, there is also a white with gold dots skirt. There are lovely bubble skirts – a skirt fashion more suited to SL than RL where wrinkling and flattening while you sit are not going to leave your skirt out of sorts all day long. As you can see, they provided another opportunity to throw on my Elphaba shoes from Digit Darkes. I believe there might actually be a dozen outfits by now with those shoes on this blog (just guessing!) Continue reading
