The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home

My mom once said you can always tell how close someone feels to you when you visit them. If they sit you down in the living room, you’re not that close. If they sit you down at the kitchen table, you’re just like family. Of course, that presumes you live in a home with a kitchen big enough for a table of guests and not in an apartment with a kitchen that feels crowded when the cat comes in to watch you cook.

The kitchen table is the heart of the home, and the countertops are its backbone. It’s where we gather to cook, eat, chat, and sometimes even work. A sturdy, spacious kitchen countertop can make all the difference when it comes to preparing meals and hosting guests. While granite and marble are popular options, many homeowners are opting for the warmth and charm of wood countertops. Not only do they provide a cozy and inviting feel, but they’re also highly functional and durable. With proper care, wood countertops can last for decades, making them a smart investment for any home. So why not consider adding some custom wood countertops to your kitchen and create a welcoming space that truly feels like the heart of your home?

Fortunately, Barnesworth Anubis’s henlopen cottage from Collabor88 is big enough for kitchen friends. I added the beautiful cabinet from DRD’s Arcade gacha in the kitchen. It was a white white which made my kitchen walls look faded, so I tinted the wood. I love creators who let us do that.

The Arcade closes at midnight tomorrow so get going and get pulling because your time is running short.

It’s cake-baking day in my SL kitchen. Speaking of baking, a funny thing happened when I was back home visiting family. I was sorting through photos and came across the printout of my mom’s famous Sour Cream Raisin Pie that we sent in the thank you cards after her funeral. I showed it to my sister and said,”You know, I have never eaten one of mom’s pies.” She was surprised, but then confessed she had never had mom’s famous sour cream raisin pie, either, because she doesn’t like raisins. I chimed in that I hated raisins, too. For whatever crazy reason, we decided to make mom’s pie. So we did. Then we each took the smallest possible slice you could take without it falling apart and took a bite. Yeah, we still don’t like raisins and her husband got a whole pie for himself.

This art deco tea set from David Heather is just everything! My aunt Merry Christmas had a set just like this, along with an old fashioned art deco toaster, the kind that the sides drop down, exposing the coils and you flip the bread half way through toasting. She and her husband were good friends with F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and for some reason, she just stayed in that time period while all the rest of the world progressed. She was wearing flapper dresses and a bob when she was in her 80s.

I do love those big open kitchens. That means while you are cooking, you are not cut off from the conversations in other rooms. I also love the Make Tacos, Not War sign from Floorplan. I loved the box it came in so much, I have it on the floor next to kitchen island from Brixley.
