Hair Fair Designers — Mirja Mills

I discovered EMO-tions in April 2010 thanks to a blog post by Sugar Planer. I became a fan of her romantic and wild styles. There is something so undisciplined about Mirja Mills hair. It wants to move and be free. Even with the arrival of mesh, her hair has the feeling of movement and freedom.

It’s Only Fashion: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest? Is there a story you can share that captures your Second Life experience?

Mirja Mills: Craziest , most exciting and silliest in all was the first year .. when I was sooo addicted that logging out meant pain 😉

The best feeling was to realize that there were people who liked what I create. And awesome always was and is to make wonderful friends in a virtual world.

IOF: What drew you to designing hair? When did you start? What are some of the changes that were most significant for you?

MM: I started with clothing and accessories for roleplay and got some * fans* who asked for matching HAIR with accessories like feathers and beads . I gave it a try … and it was FUN ! and I never stopped .

Lots of people liked / like my flexi hair . so .. mesh in SL was a big change .. and i had to learn a lot , )

IOF: How did you choose your store name? Does it have a special meaning for you?

MM: Actually when I started, there were a lots of NEKOs around ( this was a hype in 2007! You remember?  .. and I also made tails and ears and stuff like that .. and also shirts and items for EMOs. and i wanted to play with words .. so .. emo-tions was born. Later, when the store grew and I started to make hair for *everyone* I didnt want to change the name…as I always feel passion in what i create…so i can just work with EMO-tions…–so still perfect :=)

Loovu Dynamic Mini and Ukita Heels in Custard. While I love the style of this dress, you must demo first as its sizes seem odd. I am wearing the large when I usually wear medium. Also, the flesh showing on the arms and midriff is not showing through but built into the dress, so it’s not suitable for darker skin.

IOF: What is the most challenging part of being a creator in Second Life? What is most rewarding

MM: Most challenging is to still create hairstyles that don;t look like the one before…hehe.
Most rewarding are happy customers and when they IM me and tell me i made their day.

IOF: Where do you get inspiration for your designs? What is your process like?

MM: I really like a lot being on gothic and medieval festivals! And I really check those people around…for their hairstyles haha. Often customers inspire me with requests. if I like the idea, I do it…or try to 😉

Process is … having an idea .. looking for a pencil .. writing it down .. and just start 😉

The braid goes left, right and back. There is also a men’s braid.

IOF: What sets your hair styles apart from other hair designers, in your opinion? What is your style or aesthetic?

MM: For flexible hair: I think my flexi hair looks pretty realistic and detailed , and I use TONS of different textures for my hair , not just always one. About my hair in general: I try to add special things often .. like headpieces , crowns , pearls , beads ,braids, whatever .. just to make it special, just more fantasy .

EMO-tions LIV Braid gift can be worn without the hat. Since I am wearing a Lelutka head, I used the head’s airbase applier.

IOF: How has your second life changed your first life?

MM: hmm .. i miss checking profiles in RL : D

MM: I want to say THANK YOU for this wonderful job I got 😉 thanks to my customers for always being nice and supportive. and to everyone : carpe diem !

IOF: What does Hair Fair mean to you?

MM: Hair Fair is the most important event of the year for me. I am always prepared weeks or months before ( winks to Sasy*) . well it’s a HAIR FAIR .. and i am a hair creator 😉
