Siren Song

This is the one song everyone
would like to learn: the song
that is irresistible:
the song that forces men
to leap overboard in squadrons
even though they see the beached skulls

I love Margaret Atwood’s poem Siren Song because it does not go where you expect it to. It seems like it will, it goes down the path of least resistance for awhile, but then, just before it becomes trite and banal, it veers of course and surprises you. That is also the reason I like Collabor88. I don’t know if it is the selection of creators, the monthly influx of guests or just the mysterious alchemy of collaboration, but each month it manages to veer off course and surprise us and for that I am very glad. Take this month’s theme “Underwater” and the many marine shades of blue that are its palette. Of course, we would expect a few mermaid skirts, but would we expect them at this length? or with the same “mermaid’s tale” on the crop top? Maybe, but I think this is a good example of following the theme, but on a parallel path.

Consider these shoes from Fri.day. You get the idea of water from the form the straps make, like waves meeting and receding, but it’s not obvious. It is subtle and clever and therefore interesting. Not to mention, sexy as all hell.

The hair is a find at Hair Fair – and from a new-to-me store called Phoenix. It is well-done and I appreciate that the texture streaks are subtle. Using projectors can make streaks look like neon signs, so the subtly here is a gift for someone like me who loves to play with projector lighting. I added something old and blue, the lovely Francesca earrings and necklace from Donna Flora. It was one of the last things Squinternet made before she died and that makes it even more precious to me.

One of the things I love about the Lelutka Mesh Heads is that your makeup can be an amalgam of several options. For example, today I began with a base of Glam Affair’s Asia skin, applying it to the body, hands and feet. I then grabbed the Glam Affair applier for Karin, my Lelutka head of choice and applied the eyebrows, I added a hair base using the Lelutka hair base appliers. Then I grabbed eye makeup from Glam Affair’s Tecla set for Collabor88 and lips from Adam & Eve. After I applied the colors, I put on the Lelutka head HUD and used the slider to desaturate and tone them down a bit. The level of fine-tuning for the exact colors I want it wonderful. Thank you, Dita, Sachi and Minnu. You make my SL very happy.
