Help Me Find You on Marketplace

My afternoon began with a text from one of my best friends, Codie. “I need your help. I have to find something to wear to Dirk’s funeral.”

We spend a lot of time getting dressed for frivolous things in SL, things that don’t matter.  It’s amazing how your thoughts wander though, when what you are dressing for something that does in fact matter to you, when it’s not frivolity and trite.

Codie wanted a hat with a veil. My first thought was a place called Hatpins. I used to think they made adorable things, vintage and might have such a hat. I TP’d to the location in search and found a beach. The land was still marked as being said store, but it was a beach and there were palm trees. Not helpful.

I went to marketplace and first tried out the word veil. I had half expected to find nothing but wedding stuff, color me surprised when some cars, lingerie, and other random items popped up. No veils.

I thought hmmm, let me try two words and typed in VEIL HAT.

BOOM. In between the jewelry (wrong BAD creator) and the hijab (I dunno, is this wrong? It seems wrong it’s not a HAT) – there sat MINA’S Monique hat hair. I dropped Codie a link and we both ended up buying it. She bought it twice bcse she was a doofus and bought the blondes first time around.

I am excited about the purchase because first of all, it is perfect. Second of all, I must’ve forgotten Mina made such nice blondes or she’s changed her textures. Either way, her HUD selection of colors is gorgeous and now she has a new customer.

It’s a lesson to creators – use your marketplace wisely. Think on the search terms you use, how do you want to be found? Thanks to Mina’s efforts at being found, she made three sales and has gained at least one customer. I think that’s definitely worth the few minutes of time it takes to make a good MP listing.

If you like the jewels, they’re old as the wind but still amazing from Caroline’s Jewelry. Don’t throw out your old GOOD jewelry girls. If it was well made then, it’s well made now.

RIP Dirk. You were lovely.

Reneepoint well taken, but after watching other creators post about having listings removed for tags that didn't meet LL's standard of relevance, I'm shy about being too creative or excessive with tagging.
ReneeI sort of wish MP had some kind of search optimization tools too. I bet I'm missing out on a lot just by not guessing how people commonly search for things.
Faeryfox(Beth)Yup - I got zinged, but then you see some seriously big names abuse the crap out of keywords and its just....
Fudgewell I'm sure VEIL shouldn't bring up Cars. So my only point is that if it's relevant, it helps me find you.
FudgeI'm not saying be excessive. I'm saying be relevant.
Reneethat's really a message for the car maker though, cuz all those cars tagged with "veil" are drowning out the other listings tagged "veil", which should be enough of a tag. So the creator has to guess what
Reneeadditional words you might search with veil, and then tag those combos, but not too many because then the listing gets pulled. Like I said, your point is well taken, it's just a complex process to optimize
Mistytotal side note: I still have all of my Caroline Jewelry. It's one of those creators that work through the 'ages' so to speak.
