Thankfulness

There are some great pieces that can be mixed and matched at Collabor88. The top from Aux works brilliantly with the pants from Baiastice for example. I just had to wear one size smaller pant to make sure there were no stray spots bumping through in the back.

Despite the false mythology of our first Thanksgiving and the martial origins of the official Thanksgiving holiday, Thanksgiving remains one of my favorite holidays. I acknowledge that sordid history, but I love that we have a holiday that is not about anything more than gathering with friends and family to focus with gratitude on the richness and plenitude of our lives. It’s unfortunate that it’s been invade by retail commercialism and ever-more-desperate consumerism, but that is on us. We allow it. And we can bring the holiday back to food, family and thankfulness if we care enough.

I am thankful for many things in my life, but for this post, I want to focus on those things that make me thankful in my Second Life®. First and foremost, I am thankful that Second Life exists and for its culture of creativity, liberality and freedom that allows people to express themselves as they wish to – as people, birds, horses, monsters, cats, dragons and even oscillating balls of light. I am thankful that Linden Lab and Philip Rosedale had that brilliant insight that the users could be allowed to make the world and it could be interesting. I am thankful that LL keeps advancing adding new ways to make our world more beautiful, from Windlight to mesh to materials to whatever comes next, our world evolves and because more beautiful all the time.

I am thankful to the creators, the ones who make the clothes, accessories, furniture, homes, poses and animations and all the other accoutrements of life in our shared world. I am grateful for the people who build and landscape beautiful sims and let us explore them, to the people who make art and shoot photographs and put them in galleries, to the geniuses who construct games for us to explore, and the music lovers who share their love in clubs and dance halls.  You all make life more interesting and beautiful in our shared world. More than that, the vast majority of you share a strong sense of community and generosity that expresses itself throughout the year in event after event – raising funds for cancer research, disaster relief, animal protection, poverty relief and so many other important and vital causes. You see yourselves as citizens of the world and make the world a better place – in our first lives through your second lives.

ieQED is the new brand launched by SiguFaust (formerly Daphne Klossovsky of Handverk) and these shoes for Shoetopia show that familiar combination of quality and quirkiness that continues to be demonstrated under the new name.

I am thankful to the bloggers who write about their experience, share their finds and their expertise. From fabulous photos of outfits I would not find without them, to those who write tutorials and those who keep us up to date on the newest technological changes and the in, out and whys and wherefores of the Lab, you enrich our understanding and develop our skills – giving us more ways to express ourselves in our world. As a blogger myself, I am thankful to my readers who let me know that I am not whistling in the wind. I am also grateful to the feed owners who allow us all to share our words and pictures more broadly.

The Gemma skin from Glam Affair is fresh with a wintry blush on the cheeks. There will be so many gorgeous options that you will be haunting the Glam Affair gacha at The Arcade. The necklace is from BOOM for collabor88 and just wonderful. I hope BOOM makes more and more jewelry. The D!va hair is also for collabor88 and comes with a side or center part.

Most of all, I am thankful to my friends. As in first life, sometimes friendship brings great sorrow as when the much-loved Squinternet died in September, but mostly it brings great joy. Even with loss, that loss is far outpaced by the joy that friendship brought through the years. Some friends in Second Life are as dear and dearer as those in the first life. I cannot imagine not having Gidge as a friend for the rest of my life whether Second Life exists or not. My life has been enriched by so many people in Second Life and in the SL community on Plurk that it’s hard to imagine what it would be like if SL had never existed. And of course, friendship is what makes Second Life work – it is the energy the powers the machinery of our shared world.
