Ahoy, matey.

…So then I began to house-hunt in Real Life and dropped off the grid for a while… But I’m still dipping my toes in. Case in point, I logged in to find this gorgeous little number that might as well be a clubbing outfit, a bathing suit from Katat0nik. Cheeky! (Seriously, the arse is especially great in those swim suit bottoms. Wish I could find one half as decent in RL.)

And then, below, I played with the Polaroid Fun set from Miss Shippe’s Studio. She has a set of three different washes for your hud- or attachable-polaroid snapshots, and I like how it emulates Instagram/Hipstamatic. (I added the caption below using Photoshop.)

Makybe Whippet & Buck

I was drawn to this dress after seeing Real Housewives star Heather Dubrow sporting her 99th outfit with a white Peter Pan collar attached to it because it was a pleasure to see a dress where a Peter Pan collar made sense. This is a sweet and simple casual dress without the layers of lace and chiffon and sequins that she wears with her white collars. Don’t get me wrong. I like an unusual detail and fashion eccentricities, but when it becomes a schtick, people stop paying attention to you and pay attention to your gimmick instead.

Phototools Tutorial – Take Back Your Windlight Control

PHOTOTOOLS TUTORIAL PIC 1

There are very few things I have hated as much as I have loathed the changed to the windlight settings in the new UI. I deal with them, as do you, but basically, what a pain in the ass they made it.

On plurk the other day, my friend Isa linked to PHOTOTOOLS which is a Firestorm plug in that you can use to wrestle back control into one easy interface option and make your photoshoots so much simpler.

First of all, go to Phototools and DL the plug in.

Follow the instructions it gives you in the zip file. You will be replacing some of the files in your Firestorm skins folder. I made a copy and put them in a handy dandy folder. It’s very easy and took me about two minutes.

Now, restart Firestorm and hit the QUICKSTART button at bottom right. You now get a different menu.

You will see that your camera control options are a bit different now too. For your windlight settings you have rocker arrows as well as drop downs.

A quick tap of water and sky arrows gave me a completely different look. But there’s more. Continue reading →

Bloody Mary

Alexander McQueen transformed fashion with his iconoclastic designs that overthrew fashion convention. He altered the gestalt of the fashion world before his tragic surrender to despair and suicide. But his influence continues, not only in Sarah Burton’s designs for his design house, but in the more theatrical fashion shows, the extreme silhouettes with fantasy hair and makeup and more diverse and interesting models that continue to bring excitement and vision to the runways. The rebirth of tailoring and the renaissance of rich textured brocades, prints and other fabrics all are part of his influence continuing. And here in Second Life we can see his influence with some of the work of designer Rollyn of Vangaurd. Vanguard is new to me. I saw the store at The Ashraya Project and fell in love with the fabrics and silhouettes. It has certainly been around since last December, but I only came across it this month. This rich, detailed dress with the amazing epaulettes is one of my favorites from her collection.

Scent Of A Beach Party

It was all bathing suits and bikinis at the Velvet last night as Cajsa DJ’s us through a set with lots of Dick Dale, Beach Boys and other beachy tunes. I popped over for a while to dance and enjoy some non-work related time online.

Mesh shorts are cropping up all over and I am in love with these from Baiastice I’ve had them on for two days (which is a long time for me). They fit nicely and don’t give me weird body distortions. I didn’t have to alter my shape to get the S to work.

I found this little prop when I popped over to Juicy Beach sim to pay my rent to Gogolita, and was poking around the little shops around me. It’s a freebie from VivaLaVida and there is also a ladybug chair for free, but this was my fave.  It’s got three poses in it and – hey, FREE. Amirite?

For a summery look I am wearing PXL Creations KATE which is a pretty youthful face. I thought freckles were perfect for a sunny weekend day. The freckles are kind of growing on me, I might have to wear them more.

And now our weekend of remembrance/partying/etc is over in the states and it’s back to the business of being serious.

The Marshes

I swung by the Gulf of Lune for a visit. It’s such a lovely sim, peaceful and relaxing. Perhaps it comes from growing up on a lake, but I love the lakes and marshes of Second Life. For my travels, I wore this lovely top. It’s from Kunglers who have begun making mesh now, too. It comes in five sizes though I had to wear the large instead of my usual medium. The top is sexy as all get out as you can see. The pants are from Peqe. Oddly enough, I had to wear the large size in those as well. I think I must have accidentally added some weight.

I invited my friend Harrison over to BBQ with me yesterday and he refused to use the spatula. “I AM A MAN!” he declared, turning hot meats with his bare hands and only crying like a baby some of the time.

I said “Did you get the spatula?” He said “I did, but I declined it.”
