IFW10: Going to the Chapel

Second Life has created a transnational community that illustrates on a daily basis that the people of the world have more that binds us together than divides us.  Some of  those ties are frivolous such as excitement over the World Cup and love of fashion and music. There are also more profound bindings as well – such as the certain fact that all of us have someone in our lives affected by cancer. No wonder, then, that Relay For Life is such a huge series of events over the course of the year.  This weekend, International Fashion Week features 20 designers – and all have a unique design on auction to raise funds for RFL. Of course, there are all sorts of other fabulous creations there such as this gown I am teasing you with.

Meanwhile, it’s Relay Weekend and as part of that the fabulous St. Illuninatious Cathedral is also on auction.  Now, some might find it sad that one of the strongest forces unifying people in Second Life is cancer, but that’s not quite accurate. The strongest force unifying people in Second Life is hope – the hope that working together they can defeat cancer.

This diabolically fabulous gown is from Aleida – and is called the Moulin Rouge. Yes, I can see Satine wearing it, can’t you? I wonder if she would wear it to St. Illuminatious, though? She certainly would not wear that hair, but I loved the idea of contrasting the celestial and the diabolical.

The dress has a corseted bodice with a luscious lace ruffle along the top accenting and drawing attention to the cleavage. It comes with stockings, which I left off in order to heighten the color contrast between the lace inset and the flashes of skin exposed by the panniered skirt.

Here you can see how beautifully the lace on the bodice is done. The necklace is Rock Love – a very modern necklace from Ganked. The hair is from Violator and is called Berry Bush. It contains 3 pieces, the hair itself, the red and black face veil and the plumes of red and black off the back. It’s an amazing construction that really helped construct the conceit of contrast between diabolical and divine.

The skin is from Tres Blah – the Hiccup skin that I so often go to when seeking a very dramatic effect. This is the Vamp makeup. For more information on International Fashion Week, go to Glance International. There will be five fashion shows today and you just have today and tomorrow to bid on one-of-a-kind gowns from the IFW10 designers. The auction for St. Illuminatious also ends tomorrow.
