Anatomy of a Blog Post

I don’t know about other bloggers, but for me, the final outfit that I blog is often different from where I begin. That sure is true of this one. I really wanted to do a festive getting in the Christmas spirit sort of outfit, but not with a Christmas Tree Sweater or a Snowman Dress, but with combining the colors of the season. I started out with a pair of green pants – however, they were too low cut for me and showed more butt crack than could be covered by this sweater. I suppose I could have put a bodysuit under, but I really like this sweater with it’s subtle argyle pattern – so I decided to try other options – including contrasting the argyle pattern with some tartan tights I had in my inventory. Showing off the tights meant wearing shorts or a skirt, so I started trying on skirts. Perhaps 6 or so would have worked, but they were a bit too dark or they had this that or the other little issue that I quibbled with, so off I went in search of a green skirt.

I hopped around a bit before going to DeLa – where I found this skirt. I actually bought the skirt in green and black and used the sash from the black skirt. So now, I needed shoes. I had just put some one and was getting ready to choose jewelry and hair when  I checked plurk and saw photos of the new knitted legging boots from ANNEXX which were perfect. Talk about perfect timing. I jumped over there and picked them up and hustled on home.

I was feeling all Happy Happy Joy Joy when I saw that each color came with a solid and Nordic set of knit leggings. Additionally, there are more than a dozen colors of knit tights that come in each set as well, but I was sticking with my tartan.

Next came the jewelry. I dug into my inventory and put on the lovely Bangles set from EarthStones – necklace, earrings and bracelet with red, green and gold little pearl clusters. I know how much readers dislike blogging items that are not for sale, so seeing Abraxxa was on, I sent her an IM asking if they were still on sale, but alas – they are not. However, she introduced me to these lovely Christmas lights – they blink! – and sent me a set to try out. I think they are fun and since it’s Christmas season, well  a bit of flashy blinkiness is just what Santa ordered. Now that I had the jewelry, it was time to choose hair that would suit the mood of the outfit and not cover up all the jewelry – and this lovely Grace style from Truth seemed perfect.

In a Belleza state of mind, it took only a few minutes to choose makeup – going for a nice red lip and some gold glossy shadow.  Now, not every blog post gets me running around to stores hither and yon and all over the grid, but often enough, there’s just one thing missing that takes some hunting. But that’s what makes it interesting and fun! It’s all about finding the right look.

yup — your process sounds a lot like mine … and my final look often doesn’t even include anything I started with … no wonder it takes me so long to do one post. I love the look you came up with — this is terrific!

A wonderful description about the joys of putting together a look and what ultimately keeps us blogging fashion.
