The Best of Second Life

Chryselda - a gown by Shai Delacroix of Casa del Shai

There’s nothing more amazing, thrilling and exciting about Second Life than the way folks pull together to help others. Whether on the small scale like with a microproject like the Have a Heart Campaign or the massive fundraising juggernaut of the Relay For Life, Second Life residents have stepped up to help time and again. Some of that is the way it fosters international connections. When some disaster happens on the opposite side of the globe, we know people who are there and affected by it. From brushfires to earthquakes to typhoons, SL residents have each other’s backs.  I received a message from Shai Delacroix that she had set up a Red Cross donation box at her store for relief for the people displaced by the flooding from the typhoon this weekend. I popped over to make a donation and a constant stream of people were coming in to do the same.

Shai is just one of many SL residents from the Phillipines whose friends and family are affected by this typhoon. She spents hours standing by the donation box last night so she could personally thank people.  She is also donating 50% of her sales to direct relief so you can dress up in beautiful gowns like the one I am wearing and also help the relief effort. We chatted for a bit and I wandered over to look for a gown to shoot for this blog post…so the fashion is after the cut.

Oh, I cannot remember the magazine anymore, but I remember a list of the Best of as determined by resident voters and Shai Delacroix was chosen the designer who made the best textures in her clothing.  She’s still the one to beat.  I love the truly modern look of this gown, the blouse under a gown look.  Vogue did a feature two months ago on that look though not one gown in the Vogue feature could rival this one.

The jewelry is from Iverna Benelli of Little Reasons. I checked her profile last night and her store was not in her picks, but I will send her an IM to see if I can track down a current location. It used to be next to MichaMi if I remember correctly, but that was before MichaMi moved. The hair is Mirone’s Ceria – a bold avant garde look. It’s no mod, but the resize script also allows repositioning a single prim so I was able to edit is easily to fit.

This adorable skin is by Vendenta Huckleberry of KUTIS whom I met last night outside Shai’s store. She was there to make a donation and the two of them were updating each other on rescue efforts and water distribution. She learned I was making a blog post and dropped this sample of her Elena skin on my – so this post features two Filipina designers.

Let me end this post with Shai’s note that she sent out to her group last night:

Typhoon Ondoy [Ketsana] in Black September – The worst storm in 50 years hits Metro Manila triggering floods, landslide, power outage and stranding people in rooftops and malls. The storm kills 72 and hundreds missing. About 400 mm [15.75 inches] of rainfall in just 6 hours. The president declared a state of calamity.”

This weekend our friends in and out of Second Life™ were badly affected by the typhoon flooding in the Philippines. Miabella Foxley, Shai Delacroix and Kriss Lehmann are setting up a collection in SL that will be directly donated to the Philippine Red Cross. We are asking our friends and contacts to please help us raise money for the Filipino residents that were victimized by Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana.

Donations will be accepted via a kiosk at Casa Del Shai, Botanical and other locations. You can also donate directly at the Red Cross Philippines website link below. 50% of all my sales made in the next two weeks will be directly donated in form of goods to fellow Filipinos who are in need of assistance.

Please take a moment and help make a difference to those who have lost their houses and possessions from the flooding.
