Another favorite from the Digital Alchemy celebration of Egypt was this marvelous gown from Laughing Academy that wholeheartely embraced the multiple influences of the Art Deco Egyptian Revival movement. By designing a dress as an homage to Theda Bara, Laughing Academy frankly places the gown right smack in the middle of that movement.
The gown is beautifully embellished with a border on the skirt that could have inspired a Frank Lloyd Wright window. The blocky elements of Egyptian Revival design certainly must have inspired him. The sash on the other hand could have come from William Morris. That’s the thing about Egyptian Revival that is so well realized in this dress, it was a melange of design influenced by what appealed from Egyptian artifacts and design – not a replica of the past but a re-imagining. Here you can see the skirt from the front. It is heavily detailed and really a fun piece of design. However, for simplicity, the dress can be worn without the skirt prim as there is a lovely system skirt underneath.
This is the green eyeshadow makeup of PXL Creations EFE for the event and the stunning Inorite Cleo Bob. Now Theda had long hair, but if she had owrn it short, she would have worn this style.
