Dita Did It

While perhaps not the most famous wedding dress in the world, the Vivienne Westwood stunner that Dita von Teese wore for her wedding has got to be in the top ten – if only for its bold royal purple silk taffeta fabric. Impossible has taken on the challenge of recreating it in-world and proved that contrary to the name, it is possible.

I confess that I love taffeta. It’s one of my favorite fabrics and has been ever since I found my oldest sister’s prom dress in the attic. Like this, the taffeta skirt changed color as light struck it from a deep rich burgandy to a silvery gray and it has this magnificent burgundy and cerise sash waist.  It was opera length but on me it trailed like Cinderella’s gown. She’s several years older than me and was married long before I was born – so that box of clothes was my dress-up treasure trove and cemented a life-long love of taffeta and fashion that has had me splurging at vintage shops way too often to be healthy for my bank balance. When I saw this dress, I remembered my sister’s prom dress and was helpless to resist.

These crystal earrings in pink and blue Swarovski crystals has a suitably vintage feeling to go the mood of the dress. The Katie hairstyle from Tickled Pink worked beautifully with the hat and didn’t require much editing, I went for a simpler makeup than Dita chose on her wedding day – she chose very red lips and was stunning.
